eek Almost ended up as a hood ornament today!

Well it was a good day for a ride, I had washed and polished my little ol'Hornet and thought it would be good to take it out. I MSNed zeocen but it turns out he was entertaining non-biker friends

So I tootle off to do the Hunuas and I was about to head home, when I saw a nice road heading off further down South! So heigh ho, off we go!

Next thing I find myself heading down to Paeroa to take in some of their world famous in NZ carbonated beverage! So, taking that as a cue, I look to see where the weather was fair and find my Diablos pointing me down to Tauranga via Katikati!

With a quick hey nonny, hey nonny no I was at the Mount and txting DMNTD that I was lowering the value of the condoniums there and visited him and Unit! Had a great natter, perved over his new ride and talked the usual shite, vinegar and piss. Time to go! Lovely blat over the hill and down the sweepers and back to Dorkland via Matamata and Paeroa.

And that's when the defecate started to hit the oscillating machinery...

On the road back to Ngatea, a frikk'n oncoming cager pulls an overtake manuver into the middle of the lane...with me still in it!

Thank god my conscious mind didn't have a say in it and my biker mind was in full gear...clutch in, dropped a gear, pinned the throttle (as much as you can on a 250 Hornet! ) flicked left into the gap between the white line and the shoulder of the road.

The hunk of oncoming metal death passes so close I could reach out with my right hand and run my hand down it's side, corner of my eye, I saw the frightened look on a dear old nanna's face and the old geezer who must be her hubby. Death on four wheels passes me by and I flick right back into the lane.

......... I was so nonplussed about the incident, I didn't have time to get frightened! I didn't even bother pulling over or turning around and pootled on my merry way! Gah...

And was that the end of my day? No! Murphy and Sod get together and just as it begins to get dark at Mangatawhiri, I hit a little bump ... and my front lights cut out altogether! Fark!

Too dark to stop and check things out by the side of the road, for once I am not gadgeted up to my eyeballs and tch! Typical innit? :slap: Mr McGyver is me and I don't even bring a swiss army knife!

I bowl on up behind a cager towing a trailer in the fading light and follow it all to the Waikato expressway where I can finally use the streetlamps instead of the cage headlights to get back home by 7pm.

A great ride actually.. 'cept for muddled fuddy duddies in big blocks of metal ouchies and the sudden ceasement of lighted coils of wire to ease my inability to see the road at night!

Damn, can't wait to get back out riding again!

It must be nice to have a subconscious mind that's on your side.

I wish the govt would learn that they can do all sorts of stupid ideas like taking away passing lanes, but all it takes is one muppet to do an incredibly stupid thing, to still have an accident

    Glad y'all alright

Glad you're still here to inundate us with words Justin.

Let's hope those frightened old faces learned to look before overtaking in future.

    You take care GIJOE

The good ones are hard to find.

    Harder to keep.

Like to know my mates are riding with quick wits and a little of Lady Luck's benevolence.

I think that is a two edged sword! "Fark he survived! Fark, he's writing his annus horribus again in triplicate!"

I have to admit, when I started breathing again it felt wonderful... and I definitely enjoyed the nosh I scoffed down when I watched the rugger on telly with my younger brother.

When I related my experience to him (he used to be a biker, rode a fireblade but had to give it up when a cager t-boned him and his missus got him to use the insurance payout on a house deposit!) he was like "meh, been there, dodged that as well" and I was like

And then we both laughed and went back to watching the Cantabs lift the log o'wood off the Mooloos.

Actually reading back this post again...Aroha is Love .... ironic innit?

I dunno, I end up doing a lot of daft things due to it?

Case in point : dropping $2500 on more model soldiers and tanks...when I could have used it for a deposit on a brand new Hornet 900!

Daft? Yes! Mad? Definitely! Not quite right in the head? Assuredly!

That confirms my impressions of your subconscious. Military Miniatures Purchase Approved. There's always another Hornet.

Mate I was getting my share of fumes today. Spent the morning watching the rally cars, just down the road from my house. Spent the afternoon sitting on this clunker of a ride on lawnmower reducing the paddock back to a garden lawn again.

Was half expecting MDU to give me a buzz. He was talking about comming down and sighting in his new .17HMR on the 100 yard range next door.

Good news, the neck has been manipulated and clicked back into place. Still sore but I can move easier.

Not so good news, the physio thinks my last off has broken or chipped one of the vertabrae in the middle of my back. gotta go for Xrays before she will do anything else.

I certainly live up to my name.

Always in it only the depth varies, Merde.

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded
