How's this for safety gear, and well done for keeping on the white line.

Interesting that the has proper boots, almost indicates that shes knows the value of good gear... which only makes her stupider for neglecting the most basic parts.

The paint lines in the states are a far better quality than the ones here. Good traction even in the rain. As for lack of gear, in most places in the states it gets too hot that if you wear leather or cordura, you will likely die from heat unless riding fast which she isn't as that's a suburb type area (would not be a sidewalk if it was open road or freeway)

I don't know why she's that far over unless it's just for the picture though. That would only invite people to pass you stupidly close.

Looks like she's having fun. I really don't like helmets. Twice, by accident I've got to the end of the street and realised I forgot to put my helmet on. What a feeling! Just riding up a suburban street makes you feel like a space cowboy. Good thing I live in a quiet area, though

I know it's selfish to the ambulance chaps and your family etc, but biking's a risky thing anyway. We shouldn't get so outraged when somebody isn't wearing all the gear.

That being said, you'll very rarely catch me outside of full cordura, gloves and helmet.

I think in NZ bikers put a very high emphasis on good gear. When I've been overseas it doesn't seem to be so common. Last time when I went to Brisbane and rode around for a bit, I was initially shocked at the lack of gear. Jandals, even. However they've got nice (often boring) wide flat roads, sparse traffic, courteous drivers who mostly look... the risk at least feels much lower. Perhaps in the US it's similar. I don't think in NZ we can afford to be quite so lax.

Didn't legally need helmets here when I started riding (yes I know), but almost everyone wore them without fail. Yes I rode to the corner dairy a few times nekid, but the feeling of wearing a helmet gets to such be a familiar part of riding that it feels weird and uncomfortable without one.

Jandals? (automatic sphinctre clench). How long do you suppose you could wear them on a bike without that drooping sole catching something and ploughing the thong half way up your instep. I've seen it once, unpleasant.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon

Well with the shitty road surface here I'd wear one if I didn't have to as well.
All the bits of stone and shit that get flicked up at me have put me off even wearing a halve helmet anymore. But in countries where the road doesn't fall apart faster than the cheap ass government and lazy fucks from Fulton Hogun can fix it, that's not a problem.
