    On behalf of 86gsxr.....

Was sitting here not doing much at all and a bike pulls up in the driveway.

    YES the rumours are true.

I said I wouldn't post until 86 had a chance to post his own photos but his busy work schedule (and spare time being put to good use running her in) means he hasnt got any photos of his own yet.

So, super bright yellow Triumph 955i. In real life, it is nice - real nice.

Be good to see it out on a ride soon 86. (can we still call you 86 or are you renaming yourself to 005?)

    Hey, yeah! Thanks friends

Yeah, the rumours are true, and I'll try and start at the beginning.

I've loved bikes all my life, ever since I was kid, still am, but that's bikes for ya.

Well anyway, way back in the late 80's after I was forced to sell my 85 gixxer F I noticed these new Triumphs coming out, and being the lover of great beauty that I am I thought to myself, yeah wow, I'd love one of those alright.

However, life and finances intervened as they do, and I was bikeless throughout the 90's when I got my second gixxer, which is now back in the garage with my third. God they look good together.

So, I'd seen this brand new 05 Daytona in one of the local dealers and by god, what a decent price on it. Still, way out of my league, but you know how it is with dreams, lust, and love. I had to force it into my subconcious and tell myself, don't be greedy, you've already got two of the most incredible machines ever made, be content.

Call me obsessive compulsive, but when Barry showed up on his, it was just too much. Thanks Barry

There was just something about Triumph. Maybe it's because I was born in Britain, maybe it's the tradition, the old empire striking back, the legend, the line, the heritage. And hell, I know virtually nothing about Triumph, yet.

Whatever it is, Triumph has. But then again, so do a lot of others.

To cut to the chase. I had week off, and without the distraction, I did some sums and decided there was no way. But hell, I could be dead tomorrow. Hope not tho.

So, with the maths done I just went in and signed up. Great. Tomorrows another day, right. It's scary though.

There's plenty more I could rave on about on the subject but it's late, and the Triumph journeys just beginning.

I picked her up at 4.00 Friday afternoon, with just over one mile on the clock. This was put there by the guys making sure the temps and fluids were all A OK.

There's a pretty strict run in regime to follow, and that meant not above 3500 rpm for the first 100 miles. Yep, digital speedo in mph, great!

So, as I pulled out into the traffic, I realised just how careful I'd have to be to ensure she get's run in properly. Treat her right now, and the rewards will keep coming mile after mile after mile.

I hit the open road, and guess what. 6th gear, 3500 rpm, and a 20 kt headwind gave me 57-58 mph. For the first time in a long time I rode on the shoulder, and was overtaken time after time by commuters heading home. They must have been wondering what the hell is that bike doing, or not doing?

I do love mph, the only problem being is that miles take a lot longer to clock up than kms lol. So, got home with 21 miles on the dial. Sweet.

I was lucky enough to finish work early today, and after picking up official plate and reg, hit the road again.

Being a nice day, calmer and less wet than the night before, I had my first real chance to get familiar. One of the things that had impressed me the night before was the exhaust note on the deceleration, a kind of deep Whoooof, really nice and considering the minimal rpm allowed, pretty darn impressive

So, along I tootled, and at 3 1/2, mostly all I could hear was the sound of a big motor whirring away gently, but with just enough interesting ticks and tacks to whet the interest in what is yet to come.

The miles glided by quite effortlessly, and I passed through Sanson and Bulls, back down through Halcombe, one of my fav roads, and this is where I started to explore the handling characteristics. Very nice. Light, quick and incredibly responsive and nimble would adequately describe it. The steering is raked back quite steeply, and with a 16 inch front, much more responsive to rider input than I've been used to.

It also has quite a rake on the riders seat, which almost gave me the sensation of falling over the top of the screen, but I know I'll get used to that.

By this time I'd approached the 70 mile mark, and decided to crack the hundred. So, through Feilding and out the back road to the Saddle. Now, on the uphill twisty climb, this is when the great handling of this bike really started to show itself and it became a delight beneath me. A quick stop at the top, then down into Woodville, through the gorge then onto the Aokoutere road. 97, 98, 99, 100 - yes! On the dot I throttled gently up to 5000. The transition was effortless and boy, did she appreciate it. Gravity seemingly started to release it's grip and for the first time, I got a very, very tiny hint of the awesome power and acceleration that has still to be unleashed. In 870 miles time.

In a matter of seconds, less, with the tach indicating 5000 the speed indicated 79 mph. Whoa, that's license losing and it's not even begun yet. Still, I'd been cleared to overtake

At the edge of civilisation I turned back to Ashurst, and my god, those corners just melted away, and on more than one occasion I had to throttle back, just in case one of those oncoming cars would spoil the delight.

If this is 5000, what the hell is 10 1/2 going to be like? At 300 miles I can go to 6.

Stopped in to see Lance, and had a very nice chat and a photo And a huge thanks for this thread And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Then back home via Stoney Creek and Bunnythorpe.

Wow, what a rave, there's so much more to say about this bike and the emotions involved with a brand new machine, running it in, and the relationship that's developing. All those things about merging with the machine, the craft involved in developing it, riding it, engines, gears, symmetry, Zen, it's all true, and beautiful.

Now, where and what lies ahead tomorrow?
