    Thumbs down Kiwi at Bonneville

Caught this segment on TV3 news last evening & surprised haven't seen much else mentioned about this bloke (Alan Thorensen) and his speed record attempt on a ZX14 at Bonneville speed week

    http://www.tv3.co.nz/VideoBrowseAll/...ult.aspx#video

anyone know anything more about it ? I did spy a Quasimoto sticker on the bike

There have been a couple of brief articles in the Waikato Times. Neil from Hamilton Motorcycles is helping with the bike set up and from memory may also be there at Bonneville?

Phil Garrett of Flying Kiwi land speed sidecar record thingy is also flying over as the new owner is running the outfit and Phil is also riding a turboed Kwaka 1400

Wonder if they've got any specifics on the attempt because the article just said an attempt to treble the speed limit piece of piss on a ZX14. but they did show he's running NOS so what's he aiming for mmm?

That should be worthwhile keeping an eye on just for the fact the owner is a double amputee, so good on him

You've got a twin that works at Northern Accessories (if I remember right)

I was just surprised how quiet things had been about it

I saw the item and was surprised to see Mr Thoreson was involved with motorcycles. I was on a national sporting body with Allan and at that time, apart from the mutual interest, he was importing and building little aeroplanes.

The TV item did show a nitrous bottle on the bike, I would have thought the best way to get more speed would be to find a way to rewrite the engine management electronics.

Was going to mention about the Quasi sticker.
But when they showed him putting his gear on, he was wearing Nortech leathers...?

Why on earth would you wear shitty gear like that when trying to break the speed record!!!?

No offence to anyone who wears that stuff. But come on!!

Pretty sure it would be a GP RS250 with fully kitted engine. The GP 250's can do 250ish at the tracks with the longest straights so not too much of a stretch for someone with deep pockets.

Was just looking at the records, somehow some guy managed to get 257kph out of a 125 in 1981. How on earth did he do that?????

that "NOS" bottle could've ban for a drag style airshifter, or for pressurised coolant?
