Thread: First proper ride on the CR250...loved it!!

    First proper ride on the CR250...loved it!!

    Well, last Saturday I took the CR250 for its first ride after the rebuild...man does it go alot harder with the new piston in it...could also have something to do with the powervalve actually working now

    Had a blast, whoop de whoops (or what ever you call them) were awesome, jumps just as good (although I suck at jumping).

    But I have a question...about 2 rides ago (was over a year ago but stopped riding dirt bikes and got back into road bikes) I broke my shoulder on my old KDX220 going over the handle bars. Now every time I hit a jump or something along those lines I just think about braking my shoulder and back right off. How many rides afterwards do you normally take after something like that to regain your confidence? Riding a road bike I have no problems doing "stupid" things (for want of a better word) but when I get on a dirt bike it seems to be different.

    Do I just need to just harden the f$%k up and go back to how I was doing wheelies/jumps etc (this was the first time I've ever come off a bike, road or dirt) or is this just normal?

    yep pretty normal!!
    Just ride and ride and your mind will forget and confidence take over.
    Don't push so hard you fall again on that shoulder or you'll fuck your head for longer.

    Get a fly wheel weight! bloody marvelous on a 250 2smoker!

    Been there! Its called fear! Am a bit on the road now, after my big prang on the VTR1000 b4 xmas. But summer should sort that out!

    I've not broken anything, but had some experience falling off & getting confidence back takes me time anyway ( for some reason it was never a problem when I was 18 ).
    Following someone else seems to help, but also going for the medium stuff, getting the confidence back & then hitting the tricky stuff.

    as others have said the more you ride the faster you will become agian i find its also to do with the gettin older thing you start to think about the fact that you do have to go back to work on the monday family etc etc rather than when your younger and dont give a shit ( and yes i know some who are older still dont give a shit)

    Time on the bike is all it takes.
    Ride all the easy stuff and slowly introduce the stuff that puts fear in you.

    This can be done over a day or two of riding.

    Ive had some big stacks on the ramp and before i go back out and hit the ramp again i always warm up on some smaller dirt hits etc .

    Once you have done it for the first time again it all comes back to you.Your confidence is boosted and you will forget how scared you were .
    It only takes that first time again and you will be back into it.

    Another way is to keep hitting a table top not trying to clear it first time up but consistantly hitting and gaining confidence.Reapitition is the key.

    Cheers for the replies guys, going up to woodhill this saturday for a full days riding...time do put some miles in the sadle again. Hopefully I'll snap out of it after that.

    Nah, I'll be right. I like the raw power of the bike...its just the jumps and stuff that are freaking me out at the moment.

    Hey im about to go through the same thing. Destroyed my collar bone 3 months ago and my doctor just cleared me to ride even though it nowhere near healed (it doesn't hurt anymore though). His words of wisdom "dont fall off" haha nice one. So yeah gotta get ya confidence back slowly, so just take it easy and build it up slowly.

    nothing wrong with a few stacks! iv looped out in the air a few times but i heard going over the bars is where its at!

    Coming back from an injury is a great time to forget about going fast, and concentrate on riding correctly, and smoothly. Learn to ride smooth and use the correct techniques at a pace below your usuall "balls out" with your mates, and the speed will come with time, and you will be a better rider for it.


    Twice the displacement, twice the cost and a decibel problem, I'll pass on the inside brraaaap!!!

    I've just purchased some O'Neal Underdog body armour...does anyone know if this stuff is any good? Looks like it should do the job well...hopefully help me get some confidence.

    Thats what I ve wanted at out local track a Tble top long enough and high enough and shaped ,,to ease back into the long jumps ..

    I crashed on one , sharp hit with a deep middle ... the next time I came round I bailed

    dropped like a stone .. lucky my nuts took the brunt ,,, and now aI work part time in the choir

    Haha-ya nuts can take a fair bashing aye.

    Not being a smart ass but i broke 2x vertebrae 2 years ago on the ramp and last year i bent my left leg out sideways and ended up getting my whole knee reconstructed 2 weeks after the swelling went down a bit.

    I know its hard to get back out there but just remember to ride at your own pace.You dont need to be as good as you once were first time up.
    You probably took some time to get where you were so dont expect to get it back straight away.

    Having said that i found that as soon as i went off the ramp after both of these injuries i found it came back to me pretty quickly.

    Start off small and build yourself up-Time on the bike and repeatition are the key
