RIP Don Boyle

Hi - This from a friend.. Didn't know the chap personally but wish I had...

Don Boyle, a prominent Wellington motorcycling identity, has died. Don passed away peacefully on the weekend. He was of course the Boyle of Lawton and Boyle who many of you will have bought bikes off in the 1960's and 70's. He was also the father of John and Mark Boyle who run Boyle Kawasaki continuing the motorcycling dynasty. Hopefully a suitable obituary will appear in the press shortly. The funeral is on Wed (I think)

Only got good things to say about Boyles... if it wasnt for them I would have missed the boat when my bike wouldnt start. They guys there were awesome, picked it up and got it runnign for a small charge..

Mark (& John), thinking of you guys. These guys are good players in the bike biz. Nasty and I respect your business enormously. It was Don's radio advertising that carried one of the best copy lines I ever heard for clear communication appropriate to its target market.

Oh this news has spoiled my morning coffee.... As a 15 yr old living in Paraparaumu and riding my TM125 at the beach, I was befriended by Don (they had a beach house there) and spent many happy times hooning round with Luke on his TM90. Luke, a really good mate, passed away (not bikes) at a very early age and I lost contact with them, but Don was such a huge help to me, a young kid starting out, and for no financial gain.. (I didn’t have any .....) I owe Don a huge debt... and probably quite a bit of petroil.....

I like dealing with Boyles. John and Mark have helped me out immensely when I was putting the ZX-10 together, and also when trying to maintain my 2 JS-550's.

I attended this funeral today. He was a good man with a good family, which was reinforced by the turnout, and his send-off was more a celebration of his life than a mourning of the loss. I guess you could say he 'had a good innings' or maybe more appropriately, 'he rode a good race'.

I first met Don in 1969 when I went to stay with John (school holidays). I was left with vivid memories of a BSA Rocket 3 having pride of place in the shop and enjoying my first introduction to 'biking by thrashing about a Suz'i Stepthru on Paraparaumu Beach. It would seem he has helped many along the way with a hand up and/or a word of advice.

Here's to Don....a True Gentleman....Good on ya mate!!
