Seems to be a lot mad cagers around

There seems to be an increase in the sheer stupidity of cagers putting us at high risk lately.

Wasn't going to say anything but it's good to just warn people every now and again to prepare for the worst when you would least expect it.

Many will know the road to Kauiau fisheries, South from Clevedon. There's a short straight heading south after the Orere Point turnoff where you hit the highest part of the hill before the hard left that drops down to the coast.

Last week I come around the bend onto that straight and see a bro with his kids in the white ute about a third of the way along this straight. Plenty of room, the guys doing around 70kmh, I indicate well in advance and are a third of the way through my overtaking maneuovre, now on the otheri side of the road, approaching his right rear and..........guess what???
.....no reason
.....nothing to stop and look at
......he swings across the road into the opposite lane I'm overtaking
him in!!!%$#
No indication, never looked, had no idea I was there, was just pulling over onto the right hand side of the road to see what colour pile of shit the latest seagull must have let rip onto the grass at the side of the road???

Why not just pull over to the left?

Probably more fun watching burning rubber and 14 doing a close stoppie.
It was on with the binders hard, wasn't going to stop in time, released them and swerved to the left hoping he wasn't go to see me at the last minute and swing back in front of me again.

Missed the bugger by millimetres, shot up the left, tooted and flipped the birdy. Was real angry but I must say he looked real shocked to see me there.

There are idiots out there and a lot more than we would like to think

Oh, and the headlight on this bike isn't exactly small so he must have been using his rear view mirror to check out his cavities or something which would explain why he went right across the road without looking.

I have followed cars and can see they are not checking their mirrors...I have twin headlights on high beam.....I mean you would think I would be visible....trubs on these roads they don't think anyone will be behind them.

It's not like your bike is small eh and no offence but you are not the size of a dwarf so even taking out headlights you should be easy to see,,,

Glad you survived.....down to your skills too and not panicking .

To be fair, it is not about brains, it is just about awareness of others and the problem is that vehicle exposure is not like it is in say the UK where cagers are more exposed to motorbikes....

I mean NZ's rate per 10,000 is still really high considering the land mass and low population compared to other countrys of a similar size but a much greater population / cars.....so why is that....exposure

nah mate , they all have shit for brains & should be treated as such. Sad to say but the more expensive the car the fewer clues they seem to have too.

Mad cagers for sure. Tootling along yesterday in my own cage (yeah it was the rain) and shite for brains mum, with a lot of kids in a van, decides to overtake 3 of us on a shortish straight. Fark, is she on drugs or...hang on lets not go there. Lucky we all cut her kids some slack as there was, as you can expect, traffic coming the other way. I bet she arrived at school all of about 10 seconds earlier for that manouvre. Sheesh and to think I ride on the same road as her.

I just bought a cage.

It's not very expensive (ask Superweetard coz I bought it offov him).

Does that mean I'm a less then mad cager when I use the car?

Interesting comment..........I have been driving cars (cages, for those that insist) and riding motorcycles since the mid 70's. I have had many close calls on a bike, with car drivers not recognising me till it was "OH SHIT!!!" for them and me. I drive a car now.......I watch for bikes. Please dont tar me with the dumb, blind car driver tag, OK!

Well from a motorcyclists perspective and having been on the recieving end of "it" (in a cage oblivious of the rest of the world), I reckon you'll be better than average.

Your incident happened last week? Monday was a full moon I think.

I drove a bus for a while and can confirm that traffic really gets haphazard round the full moon. Cars flying through red lights and stop signs, pedestrians just lurching out into the road...

The Friday nearest the full moon tended to be worse, more traffic around.

This may sound odd to some of you, but mental health workers and nurses in old folks home that I've spoken to don't like the full moon either.

Be careful out there.
