LOL mate common enough mistake - that's actually Wellington.. or more specifically, wherever Uncle Helen's hanging out at the time.

[QUOTE=jrandom;1156038]I'd be surprised if a judge considers that argument to be anything other than slippery bullshit.

What is it that comes out of lawyers mouths every minute. Judge should be immune to it by now

So what about this mounting option then????

OK, so I got stopped today and given a talking to about the position of my number plate. I have a custom can on my sport bike which means the factory bracket is no longer there. So, the plate is now mounted on the inside of the wheel well (basically where it would be if there was a bracket, except much deeper in). The officer who stopped me said it needed to be behind the back wheel. Mine is currently in front of the back wheel, but high enough that the back wheel would never cover it. Anyone have any info on EXACTLY where the plate needs to be mounted? See attached photo for details.

Would like opinions but would LOVE someone who could point me in the direction of the legal wording. Don't really want to have to move it unless i
    I REALLY have to.

Well IF you were to carry a 80kg pillion would it still be visible? and does it have a number-plate light?

Would say that the light is missing. And I might be wrong, but looks like a solo bike?

May the bridges I burn light the way.

Hence why I said 'IF' in caps.

And I have no problem with his plate locating - but that ain't proof that it's legal.

OK. Interested in the legal aspect here as I have also been riding bikes with plates in "strange" places. So had a good read of the "Vehicle inspection requirements manual - In-service certification" http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/cer...ml#motorcycles

But nowhere could I find anything about where a plate had to be mounted. There was info re the plate light. But thats it.

(Found a interesting thing: A Motorbike can be max 12.9 meters long...)

Anyone else found any rules/regulations re the plate mounting?

May the bridges I burn light the way.

Yep, dead right on both counts. I think mounting a light in that position should not be too hard. Don't want to go down that path if I will still get stung for the position though.

It is a solo at the moment, but to be fair, it could have the pillon seat put back on in the future I guess. Maybe as long as it stays a solo (which knowing my wife will be forever) the location is cool, but if I put the second seat back on it is no go.

Maybe they're concerned a Speed Camera wouldn't be able to see it?
