Wellington: City POLICE out in force AM, Sun 5 Aug

    Hey all,

Just a quick warning if you're heading in/out of the city this morning:

1/ Wellington Stadium / Aotea Quay - police car

2/ Wellington Train Station / Waterloo Quay - another police car.

3/ Motorway North / Aotea Quay on-ramp - Bikie cop with speed gun

4/ Ngauranga Gorge / Centennial Highway (Up) - police car.

Saw this lot while I was dropping wifey off to work this morn'.

    Play safe out there
    Keep it rubber-side down...

They are to catch the crims doing 65 along there.

That's revenue gathering, 70 is safe along there. I think people heading southbound don't see the 50 sign near the stadium and then get a ticket. It's pretty stupid really.

    I see them there often.

Scoff all you want, the 50km/hr section of Aotea Quay has people crossing the road and I've personally nearly been taken out by people doing at least 20km/hr over the posted speed limit, changing lanes with no warning.

It's been 50 km/hr past the stadium section for as long as I've lived in Wellington and most Wellingtonians struggle to stay under 60 along there.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

It is an easy spot to get the ticket count up. On the positive side they should get a few drunks who have been out all night and think it is safe! to drive home.
    Here for the ride.

You should have looked both ways before crossing!!

It's crazy to have that posted at 50Ks, two lanes each way and not a lot of ped traffic. Why not set the limit to 70Ks and reduce it on a temp basis when there's an event on at the stadium.

There are a lot of blind spots and a couple of side roads that give traffic on the road no visibility of traffic trying to turn onto the road. The Ped traffic is increasing as the wharf precinct becomes mostly office blocks. This is particularly true during the morning and evening rush hours as people park in the Wilson car parking at ground level in the Stadium.

As I mentioned before the speed limit is currently 50 km/hr, has been for decades and is known to be a spot that Police hang out with hand held radar units. Why would you get a ticket going down that stretch of road or be surprised when you see them there?

The muppets crossing the road there are stupid. They hide next to the pillar holding up the bridge. They are also being lazy. There is a perfectly good bridge (Which I use about 10 times a week) going over that road that they don't use. The rapa line train however pulls up at a platform with no ramp to the bridge. But then they could cross at the crossing near the bluebridge wharf.

A pedestrian crossing with lights is being installed in the near future.
