List of mentors who are willing to help out and get you some practice:

    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/mentors.php?

Once you know how to ride, check out this training group that I'll soon be joining. They take you out to a safe spot in a group, and practice various skills:

And for getting experience, look up www.riderskills.co.nz

That's where I did my training and got my handling cert, a pre requisite to sitting your learner's licence. They are patient and provide bikes for training in a safe environment.

It costs $120 for the handling course and handling cert test (Passrite costs about $180 or something, is more focussed on cars), and when I decided to buy a bike I got $120 off (course cost!) because the one I chose happened to be at Coleman's Suzuki K'rd, who they have an agreement with.

RiderSkills is in Avondale, which is mid-way between Central City and West Auckland.

Deviant covered it so all I'm going to add is the Riderskills guys are great. If you can ride a pushbike they'll get you to pass the basic handling skills cert so you can get your learners licence.
