My earlier post "Where do you do poohs" was (understandably) removed.
It was in reference to an advert on 95bfm, the radio station run out of the auckland uni. They write all their own adverts, regardless if you are coca-cola and have spent thousands on a "jingle" that you use with every other station in the country. I actively avoid paying attention to advertising, but I chose to listen to bfm adverts because I enjoy them.
My point - I like original, funny, fresh, something with some intelligence (the ad above is more intelligent than it looks), and something that isn't cliche.
The flip side is that you can't make it too "clever" (ie. obscure) - if people don't get it they will think it's rubbish or not know what it is for, like how my post was deleted.
anyone remember the honda bike adds from years ago?
the jingle went something like...."if you don't know what it's like to ride a honda some place
with the wind in your hair
and the sun in your face"
cant remember the rest but as a kid it sure made me want to get a bike, and i did!
yamaha had an add on tv too but cant remember that one.
A universal dream of greatness is that
We push ourselves to the limit
Yet still be brilliant when the chips are down.
Sometimes , The struggle kills the dream.
OK - in general, the hyper glossy ads are as much about pandering to the advertisers (product and ad agency) ego as they are about selling the product. Effective marketing means I should expect a return on every dollar i spend so the ad MUST result in increased sales. To do that there must be a direct value to the consumer and a way to purchase the item...
yeah - and stop doing your own modelling - not everyone wants portrait ads ya bloody giraffe...
I am Engineer. I want to see Schematics, Specifications, Technical Features, Exploded Diagrams, Illustrative Photographs & the Price.
Hot Chicks are good toobut only if they lose the bloody stillettos & look like they're capable of riding the damn thing.
And being able to actually buy the products in question is a big help. I think some of the stuff advertised in Kiwi Rider must only be available in about 5 shops nationwide, why bother with an ad? If a shop has to order something in I might as well just use Mr Internet.

Oh yea, and then a picture of a motorbike at the end of it.
Illegal hi-jinx on bikes - wheelies, stoppies, burnouts, not wearing helmets...
Doesn't matter what is being sold. Failing that, hot chicks.
Well, aluminium or steel usuallyIt's amazing what you can construct with a few scraps of alloy, the Wiltshire-Evacut multi axis machining centre & a rainy afternoon in the shed!
Nah, I'm a visual person, I'll take a graph over a table any day
I reckon the distributors of bike accessories should put more emphasis on in-store displays of their product, a lot of shops just have a few messy shelves of stuff, even simply a poster of 'knicknack X' above the shelf would be a start. If they are spending hard cash having 'featured products' in a magazine, how about also making sure those same featured products are nicely displayed next to the counter in the shops & changing the display monthly?
Cheers

A clever idea goes a long way to making an ad more memorable and really stick in your mind.
Did anyone see the new Michelin Dual-compound ad?
It's like a green and yellow 3M sponge in the shape of a tyre.
Apparently long lasting in the middle but grippy in the wet on the sides.
Anyway, it was a clever ad.
Other than that, good quality photography, and hot bikes / people will get noticed.
Sorry to the rest of you guys with the "*Grunt* He/She has to look like they know how to ride the thing".
Bollocks! You really want to see hairy swamp trogs in advertising???
Unless they were really disagreeable to the eye - now that would get attention.![]()
Keep it rubber-side down...
