Depends on which area you ride, if down here I would not waste the dollars, most of my 'customers' have a device known as a 'radar detector' decorating their dash.

All work but none are fool-proof to an astute H.P. operator!!

I recommend the Valentine,it comes with the ear piece option.as said its not full proof but helps.its the really sneaky philf that normaly get ya,ya wanna get a jammer as well.Ive seen bikes with a radar and jammers on the front and rear with a tricky little switch set up cause jamming is illegal or you could just do the runner judging they dont c ya plate.

Hamish and I have Escort 8500's which work pretty well. Only an insurance though, not a guarantee. They've paid for themselves several times over. In the car once we got done as the detector only picks up when the cops around with his doofery pinging other vehicles - if it's in "sleep" mode then the detector can't pick it up.

The 8500's have a built-in socket for the earpiece already fitted when you buy them.

I think they're around $1300 to buy retail, but we got our second one via a mate who brought 10 in from the US - from memory it was $750. If you want me to see if he's able to get any more let me know.

Escort 8500 here too. Won't save you if the cop is using instant-on, but that just does not happen much in the central North Is. Too much traffic, too many opportunities missed, so they just leave them on.
Detector or not, stay legal(ish) between Te Poi and Cambridge.

Do a search on the site

.... there are a few good previous threads. Personally, a detector has slowed me down as I get paranoid every time it goes off! Not a bad thing really!

Buy a Harley and ride with an open face helmet. All your problems will be solved.

    i have 2 radars.
a uniden gps one that tells you your speed and what direction your traveling
and also the bell xr65 i think.
The bell works better than the uniden but it does fals a lot more.

I would go for the Escort passport like the others above. They work realy well and dont false as much as the valentine.
They retail about 1300 but people are selling them on trademe brand new cheap as. a friend of mine got his from there for $500.

Also i dont think that laser jammers are illegal in New Zealand but radar jammers are.

Has anyone mounted there radar on there tl?
im planning on doing so but just wonderd on where to put it.

Dead right, the above combination has saved me from countless speeding tickets!!!! and theres no radar detector to break down or get nicked

Instant-on is the order of the day down this neck of the woods

It's not that jammers are strictly illegal, per se, but to jam at an effective wattage, the devices need to be licensed/telepermitted, which the manufacturers do not do. I can't remember the exact numbers, but in effect you can't jam a 15W radar speed gun with a 5W tranmission.

The best radars for motorcycles in my opinion would be the Valentine One or the Escort 8500, this is as they use the RJ11 phone jack power plug and you can get a wireless device that plugs into this and transmitts to a device in your helmet.

For all the Info you'd need go here: Radar Direct NZ

I dont no wut their pricing is like but they have everything with the info you'll need.

i've got an excort xp8500 that i bought brand new off trademe for $550. i have switched off the POP laser, k band and x band, and oply run laser and Ka. between my place and work there are two falses - the gull station on roscommon rd, and *sometimes* going past the BP at bombay, although i wonder if it's just a HP car with it's radar on at the fruit shop. it has excellent range, good features, and the only hting that i reckon it lacks over the val1 is the directional indication - is that worth an extra $500?

It is if you can't decide whether that weak Ka signal was a cop ahead sampling traffic or way back behind you, and you choose wrong.
