    Aftermarket can advice......recommendations please

Hey dudes n dudettes. Finally replaced my written off bike on Wednesday & im well keen to sex this RF900 up

Im not bothered about increasing power/torque it has way more than enough for me, but hey if it does then that's all good by me too. My reasoning is im after a deep, throatie rumble. Basically wanting it to sound as grunty as possible.

Was at a bike shop today & the salesman showed me his Kwaka 900 with an after market exhaust & while it did sound better than standard still wasn't THAT good I thought. I've heard some wicked bikes before & wishing mine to sound the same

So yeah can all you after market Can owners can you recommend me the best sounding one that fits an RF900.

ps: ill be keeping the stock one in the garage for warrant day

In my extremely limited experience, Micron and Scorpion cans generally have a good sound to them. I have no idea about fitment for the RF900, but I'm sure somethings available.

You can generally perform a mufflerectomy on the standard one if you're careful. And by careful, I mean don't make it so obnoxiously loud that you can't pass a warrant

Try a Neptune muffler. New Zealand made - looks and sounds great.

The can is only one part of the total exhaust system. To get the best sound and performance, you need to achieve an unrestricted flow with no choke points, no sharp bends, no baffle plates inside the can, headers of equal length, and at each stage of two or more pipes 'coming together' the next section of pipe must be large enough that it's capacity is the same as the pipes preceding it. To get totally scientific, you are trying to achieve a 'tuned' system, which will also require that each section be of a particular diameter and length, the idea being that sound waves travel in harmony.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

The 999 and the Vyrus (the 999 powered one) doesn't have that

The Vyrus is quite unusual... exhaust tuners have know for a while that they don't need to be the same length, just 'tuned' the same through bends/pipe sizing/other cool stuff that's over my head. The Vyrus has a 700mm rear header pipe, and the front is about 1.5-2m (both approximate iirc values, pretty sure the rear is about 700mm, but you get the idea as far as relative values go ).

Over mine too...point is tho, I guess equal volume = equal length/size. Easier to have equal length headers if possible. I know that V-twins pose difficulties in this regard, but in-line fours generally do not.
In Boob's case, the 'right' can is probably all that is reqd, there are heaps to choose from, but one will stand out as most suitable for an RF900. I don't know which one tho.
EDIT: Be aware that if you achieve a free-enough-flow, it may be necessary to re-jet the carbies since the engine will run too lean at higher revs

Yoshimura have always had a good relationship with Suzuki, I'm picking that they'd be a good place to start

    GOOGLE is your friend

Check the various website forums (fora?) that deal with your model bike.
Usually these will give good information.

I don't mean rush in and ask, you will almost certainly upset their version of the "Re-post Police". Just read the previous posts and check the information they have in the "Files" section. A look at the photos in their "Gallery" should also give an indication as to what's hot and what's not...

Of course the "Arrow" importer is in your town, although a fat lot of good that will do you :-) Don doesn't do retail, and he doesn't do discounts

A muffler is essentially a 2-1/4" baffle tube with some packing around it, it takes a bit of effort to design a 'crap' one (that is Microns opinion, might be worth poking around their site to see the context in which they make that statement).

Full stainless will look much nicer and have a longer life, but more $$.

Yeah I love the look of polished stainless. The one in the TM linky is only $220

    * Brand new oval stainless steel muffler!

    * Universal muffler ,basically can fit all the bike with side mount muffler.

    * alloy sleve with stainless steel endcaps and internals

    I'm confused....

As an add on, I'll ask the main question in a minute.
I've done a mufflerectomy on the standard cans for my XJR, and it does what you're after. It's a deeper, throatier rumble, and passed VIN and WoF no problem. Just make sure you use stainless rivets to reassemble.
Now, my main question. How are race cans viewed if pulled. Bearing in mind the noise that Imprezas, Evos and Harleys make, is my popping on the overrun and quite fruity pair of Laser race cans going to get my collar felt?
The bike's got an aftermarket collector box as well, and is jetted for the race cans.
