How's this for theft.
From the latest "bike mart".
From Custom Chambers,Reverse Cone mufflers for Triumph twins or similar bikes.$350ea.
From the US, Reverse Cone mufflers,$US 35.00ea Plus $US 10.00 postage.
8 days delivery time.
The US mufflers are made by MAC,a very good muffler!!
CC also has drag pipes for Jap cruisers listed at $800.
That's for two bits of illegal pipe with a couple of bends in em'
Guess the Yanks get my money again.

I wnet all the way out to Custom Chambers last year, to see about getting my mufflers (bafflectomied) quietened down. I told him what I had in mind (plug, similar to the "spuds" Staintune use), and he didn't understand, said my idea wouldn't work, and said he'd have to cut the mufflers open to see what was in them, and rebuild them (several hundred dollars). So I went to Woolf Mufflers, gave them a drawing, and said, "Build these". $60 later, I had what I wanted.

Theres so many cases like that thou, where someone says cant b done unless $$$ are spent go round the corner and its done for $. Always pays to shop around.

Seems silly alright. Got a WFO Dunstal replica for the $NZ99 at a local bike shop a year ago. Seems to be lasting ok too. The pic of the Pantah 500 in the 2nd hand thread has a pair of the same type of muffler on it. That reminds me, must take it off and give it a soak in oil. IIRC reverse cones from the same shop are $115(just checked this evening). Went to the Classic Bike show here a few months ago and a guy was selling a battered up Dunstall (and I mean dents all over it) for around the same price if not more.

Well, the full story was:

• I bought the bike with bafflectomied 'mufflers'.
• It was PHARKIN LOUD !!
• I took it to a couple of WOF-type places, and confirmed it wouldn't get a WOF.
• I looked on TradeMe for alternative mufflers, discovering several people selling aftermarket ones that looked good, but when I asked "Are they legal?" the auctions mysteriously disapeared. Someone was selling a standard 'pair', which turned out to be 2 right-hand ones. I gave up on that avenue.
• I thought plugging the ends with a 'spud' would work.
• I went to Woolf Mufflers, told them what I wanted, and they didn't understand, so I bought some perforated core from them, and riveted that in place. It looked a bit daggy, but quietened the pipes down to just LOUD.
• I went to a muffler shop in Barry's Point Road, to ask them to make my 'spuds', and without even listening to me (thickets) they said, "We don't do bikes", and pointed me at Custom Chambers.
• I rang Custom Chambers, tried to talk to the guy about what I needed, to get some idea about price, etc., and he said "I'll need to see the bike". So, I took a lunchtime (actually 2 or three), rode all the way out to Eastern Tomato or wherever, eventually found the place, I explained what I wanted, he took a quick look and told me he'd have to go in, exploratory surgery and all that.
• I thought "Phark this!" and "Phark all these pharking morons!", got me pen out, drew a quick sketch, took it into Woolfs, they sent it away, and the ploogs were couriered there the next day or the one after that. Bunged 'em in... hmmmm... too quiet. Took 'em out, sawed a bit off, bunged 'em in.... hmmm... betterer....etc. etc. till they were just loud enough.
• Now they look (at a cursory glance, by a higgerent WOF person or policeman) to be standard, but don't sound as wussy as stock. {whewww....}

It's all about culpability,whatever that means - in the poor sad society we have now businesses can be ''done'' for trying to help some poor prick like yourself,it's easier and safer to just say no,we don't do that,than get involved in some stupid court case years down the track.Don't blame them,blame those responsable for letting this happen in the first place.I can fix anything,I've built my carear around my experiance in a wide field - these days I don't move out of my box...no sir we don't do exhausts,go see the guy up the road...no sir we don't do chassis repairs,go see the panelbeater....no sir I won't help you do something I'm very capable of,I'm just too scared some pricks gunna sue me...
