    Coming to New Plymouth

The wife and I are moving to New Plymouth at the end of July, from the UK. We would be grateful for any info on the local bike world (if any), clubs, dealers etc. Also any general info, such as what to see, nice areas to rent and anything else that might be useful.

    thanks

Stay out of Marfell. PM Nadroj or Sensei.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Welcome to you!

I am moving back to New Plymouth mid August after 15 years away. (I grew up there, until age 21).

There are lots of british expats around in NP. Try www.britishexpats.com

There is a section on New Zealand in the forums there - you should be able to hook up with people living in the area.

It's a really pretty little town, very easy to live in.

We'll be meeting up soon, I'm sure!

    See you,

    Jan.

Small city even by NZ standards but I've always liked the place. Very attractive setting, fantastic surfing and if you like the great outdoors - you will be real happy. Bit of a hike to the rest of the North Island but the locals seem friendly....

I have some clients up there and I'm always keen to visit them for sure... I'd move there myself if I could find a decent job....

    Cheers

Oh and yeah there is definitely plenty of bikes around and some awesome roads to match. The local Honda dealer organises rides about every 2nd thursday evening during daylight savings - More Suzukis and Aprilias on the rides though than Hondas

PM me as well... the local Constabulary can point out many hotspots for you to avoid. If you have a place in mind, let me know...

Pfft - they call me tornado Paul in some parts.... (wimmins parts mostly) and lets face it - it's rained everywhere. Besides the climates great for growing rhododendrons etc and Vicki does love to garden...

Do they go anywhere else except the Mokau pub, these days!

yeah - been to a few pubs along SH45 and a winery off SH3 heading north. My memory ain't the best when it comes to place names but most places have been pretty good.

It's out today and it's lovely. The attached picture is taken from Cape Egmont, not downtown New Plymouth... It's from last winter but it just happens to be the only photo I have at work.
(Note for Saslex, Image used with permission of the photographer. )

And if sels1 comes up this way occasionally he should say so before he actually arrives one day, he could meet the locals at some convenient hostelry...

I've lived in the Naki for 50+ years & have never seen a pub in Mokau.
The closest are at Awakino or Urenui.
Only one Pie n Pint ride per year goes to the Awakino pub so there is plenty of variation with roads around the mountain, South and East as well as Urenui and loop rides ending in local watering holes with eateries.
