Sunday 12 August - Where Did You Ride Today

Brother-in-law Stevedee, and I rode to Rimutex 9.45am, only three other bikes there, and they departed south just after 10am.

We headed straight for Wild Oates - Carterton via Martinborough and Ponatahi Rd. Bit wet over the hill and in the Rapa but fine coming back same route.

    Fuel:
Stevedee - bacon and eggs & flat white
BuckBuckNo1 - stroganoff pie and flat white

    Heads Up and Enjoy

[If you did any practise then you may want to write up here:http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...d.php?t=54633]

Round Oriental Bay and carried on following the water till the road stops then back home through Brooklyn.

Not hugely far (think about 40 kms all up) but first time Ive had a decent ride on it so was still alot of fun

woke up sunday morning...looked outside...wet with slight drizzle

    GUTTED!

in the end though i went well screw that......i need practise in the wet anyways...

so put on my one piece leathers, fired up the zxr and off i went

so off i set through botany down to whitford...maraetai and then down to kaiaua all went well on the way there....getting alot more confidence in the wet again after not being on a bike in 8 months.... was getting the front abit skittley hitting bumps mid corner....got into the beginnings of a tank slapper exiting a 65 at 120 ish but kept that under control....pushed the limits of a bike a few times....and it sure lets you know when you reach them....especially the front was having problems in the wet...as i'm running a Dunlop gpr70sp, which from new have stuff all tread...are amazing in the dry but are adventurous in the wet....Dunlop gpr100 on the rear was mostly ok because they have alot more tread on them so can be used in the wet as well as the dry....

got the rear losing grip a fe times though mid corner hit a bump....she hopped out a bit then down she came with grip again

later on closer to kaiaua came into my arch nemisis corner a lefthander with 5 nice little arrows but on speed warning....and shes about a 45 corner....once came into it at 120 on my old zxr....the rest is history lolv i decided it wouldnt claim me again....

so in a came at about 80ish....peg down.... and kept going....thought to myself ....take that ya f**ker...

by the time i was on my way back again it was drying up a bit

on my right there was an oyster place.....leaning her over a bit at about 130-140 ish through the left hander i would assume to be if it had been marked a 75 (wasnt marked though)

wanted to gun it out a bit on exit but already close t redline...so clicked her up a gear...went into gear...then clicked out by itself into neutral.. at like 130-140kph...i'm thinking this aint good....this corner was still damp....

so i thought well i'm gunna have to put it back in gear to keep the power on...clicked her up a gear.... vrmmmmm driffffttttt....ooooo shitttttttt......traction......thank fuck for that.....bit of a wobble and a shake of the bike after about i estimate 10 metres or so of my rear kicked out a metre to the side.... all happened so quick....ahhh well all good....

    so onwards i went....

came back to my arch nemisis corner again...had to pass a car a couple of corners before.....peg down once again....that corner is now forever defeated by me lol

coming up through the bush twisties...bra brub brub ..brabb brub....ahh crap running outta gas onto reserve i went....

i'm thinking well this aint good still about 40 k's from home...got up to the end of twilight road i cant remember what township it is...went down it for about 100 metres.. and then thought well if i run outta gas down there...nobody will stop to help me...so turned around and took the main maraetai whitford road....and had no gas money so cldnt put anything in...so hoped like hell it would get me home.....

just before i hit whitford.....bra brub brub brub brub...silence.....ahhhh shit.

hopped off and started pushing her....

got about 300 metres then a dark green honda oddesey pulls over...asks me whats wrong...outta gas mate ....he says oh no worrys i got a little gas can in the back....oh awesome cheers! so were putting some gas in her and he tells me he rides an 02 636...so had al ittle chat...thanked him with all my heart and was on my way again.....i did remember his rego was going to look him up and send him something to thank him but forgot the rego.....so thankyou mate ...it was much appreciated if you are reading this....

no more adventures past that point until home...

    what a day

    sorry about the novel lol

    Cheers: SM

Left work went straight past home over the Rimutakas to Featherston then Ocean Beach Road to East West Road to Martinborough, filled up and then returned to Featherston in reverse order and back home. Since I filled up in Martinborough until lunchtime today clocked up 250km

As above but in reverse - Taupo to South Ork
Practiced using an SS Commode as a radar shield - pity about the camera van hiding on the other side of the road.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.
