Haven't had the official word from the assessor, but WMCC called me to say that the parts + labour cost of repair is $5000! Sounds like the bike will be a write off - bye bye my lovely GN!
Still haven't seen it, but will try and get there to see for myself tomorrow or Friday.
On the plus side, I was able to cancel my full test to be rescheduled at a later date without losing my payment - nice one LTSA! The fee is just held on the system until I re-schedule...

On the plus side if you can borrow a bike to do your full on you can take your pick of replacement bikes above 250cc and get some value for money with that payout.
Saves on trade-in/trademe too.

Ah poos! Im sure once you're up and well that someone could lend you their bike... Mybe you could book the test for a couple of weeks or so after your cast is due off?.. That way you'll be ready to go. Maybe you could even start looking for a new "bigger" bike while you're incapacitated? You're very right it could ALWAYS be worse! Good onya for being positive!

I was far to busy puking my guts out with food poisoning to be riding so missed out on all the bad luck on the roads.

UPDATE:
Well, I'm starting to feel better and my bruising is developing nicely. I showed my leg to my 4 year old niece today and she said "Purple is my favourite colour!" So I asked her which of the purples on my leg she liked the best - answer - the reddy purple on my calf. Gosh, kids are cute!
Haven't had official word on my bike - I think the assessor was going to look at it towards the end of last week. I went and had a look at it myself on Thuursday and it didn't look that bad, but the problem is that so many parts have scrapes and need to be replaced that the cost mounts up. Pete from WMCC has already said to let him know when I'd like to use their 250 loaner to do my full - thanks Pete!
Took my jacket and helmet into my insurance company and they are going to replace both. Nice one - relatively painless as the person I spoke to on the 0800 number on Monday had already forwarded the details to the branch near my work.
So - am definitely going to get back on a bike when I'm able. I'd been planning on sticking with the GN even after my full, because it's such a great little commuter bike, but might as well upgrade now. Bike shopping will be fun! Too bad I just got a new chain and sprockets 3 weeks ago, though... oh well...

I like your attitude, when you get back on your bike find a suitable wee layby somewhere and go through the situation in your mind and act it out again to learn and practice where you went wrong.
Practice in your mind where your escape route would/could have been, it will all come to you in the end and you have it stamped into your memory and will always ride defensively, automatically.
