    Speeding fines: loss of license

    Hi Guys and Gals

I thought the new laws were if you caught driving or riding at 140km per hour your vehicle was automaticially impounded and you received a 28 days lose of vehicle and license. I just checked at LTSA and they state:
Speeding fines increase progressively from $30 for speeds less than 10 km/h over the limit, to a maximum fine of $630 for speeds up to 50 km/h over the limit.

If your speed is more than 50 km/h over the limit you could be charged with careless, dangerous or reckless driving, and at more than 40 km/h above the speed limit you could also get a 28-day licence suspension.

What's the bully. Is your ride a gone burger or not.
    Cheers Corky

Over 40km/hr then you're walking with a 28 day instant license suspension. Your ride is not impounded but you have no licence to ride it either.

Also an instant fine as well.

And if you then ride and get stopped you ride will be impounded for 28 days AND you'll get another 6 months disqualification AND more money will be demanded from you.

I was caught at 59kmh over the speed limit, ticket was $780 and i got the 28 day suspension on the side of the road. I think the impound depends on whether you get the dangerous/careless which is dependant upon the place you were speeding, how you were speeding (careless/dangerous maneuvers) if people were around etc. The cop gave me the ticket on the side of the road then followed me about 1.5km to my friends house where i was served the licence suspension.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Your two statements are compatible. The key words are "more than 40kmh above ..."

So, if you get nicked for doing 140, you get a fat fine. If the number is 141kmh you get the fatter fine and loose licence for 28days.

Ok so what happens if your a long way from home (or anywhere else for that matter).

Reason I say on Monday I returned to NP from a weekend at a mates place in Tauranga. I was way out in the sticks at times, what if I was speeding at say 150Km/h ++ & got pulled over would they expect you to leave ya bike on the side of the road & hitch home???

    Pfff like hell I say!!!
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded
