Biker down, Dairy Flat (19 August)

Took our bikes for a wee blast today, Kaukapakapa Hotel for a quick pint and a toastie, went home, swapped to the car to take daughter to Puhoi cheese shop and just north of Oteha Valley we came to a stop. Traffic was backed up quite a way as there had been an incident just north of the BP service centre, Dairy Flat (in the northbound lanes) around 3-ish. The bike involved was a Suzuki sport bike, the car was pretty messed up, as was the bike, but no sign of the bike rider.

While the cops were already there when we went past there was no fire engine or ambulance, no towies either. A post or two of the cheese cutter barrier were missing, it didn't look pleasant. We guessed that the car driver might have changed lanes on the biker, pushed him into the grass and then the barrier, then probably spinning his car into the barrier.

We couldn't see anyone lying on the ground, no jacket, no lid etc. We did see what looked like occupants of the car milling around their wrecked car.

Anyone got any info? Hope that rider was ok.

    Unhappy

I was out that way but we didn't go on the motorway (east cost road instead).

I think Lteejay saw this one:

Saw it happen from a distance. The bike was 2up (looked like 2 males) and both riders were down but conscious. One of them was getting a lot more attention than the other. Only one other vehicle was involved and from what I could see was the cause of the cheeze cutter damage.

They'll be sore in the morning.

I saw this too. Was amazing how many bikes were out today and how many passed the accident.
My sister was infront of my by around 10 mins so text me to say there was an accident and it was a bike, my heart automatically went out to all bikers. Amazing what being on a biker site does to you

I went past just after it happened and saw the car on the tow truck and the bike on its stand on the side of the road looking rather worse for wear

Hope the rider (and pillion) are ok
I'm gonna make it so PC

Thanks for your posts everyone. Glad it wasn't more serious, although any bin isn't good.

There must have been some KB'ers that rode past us.
