I like the scrapheap challenge too, but sometimes i can't help but think they have a 'remarkably' well stocked scrapyard to start with. Some of the finds are just so convenient.

Then again, I've never been in an english scrapyard* so who's to say...

    *But I ride a japanese one :-)
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

    haha

Actually have you ever seen a Japanese scrapyard? Most of the stuff in them is only a few years old, and the cages at the wreakers look better than you see on the road in NZ.

Um,have you ever been to a car yard in Auckland? those cars you saw at the scrap yard are on his yard. That's what the whole Jap import car industry is about - the cars are legislated off the road and destined for the scapheap, picked up for a song and sent to NZ,cars are also not often wrecked in NZ anymore either, they are wrecked in Japan...nose cuts, rear cuts, doors, engines, packed in containers and sent over. It's a crime they wreck such nice cars in Japan, also a crime they are sent over here...not to worry,it's life.

Meh, I think that quite a lot of the Challenge shows is planted, like, on a chassis that they would find desirable would be instructions on where to put it written on the windows (true story) And really obscure stuff lying around

if they did, I'd possibly watch it but only with the sound turned off, why does the dickhead that does the commentary have to shriek with feigned excitement all the way through??? Drives me crazy, mind oyu I'm obvioulsy ridiculously intolerant, I can't stand listening to the kids watching sponge bob either!!

Its no secret that scrapheap loads the yard with stuff the teams can use, when they first started, about 3 episodes into season 1 they said on the show that they hid stuff out there to make the builds possible.

It also looks like the producers have inside knowledge on what each team will be building, so I'm assuming that they give each team & expert the build spec, negotiate what their build will be to keep the 2 of them different enough to be interesting and then seed the scrap heap with the necessary items to make thier builds.

P.S. The new blond presenter is cuuuuute. Not that Cathy Adams wasn't a stunner, but in a different way.

That was Cathy Rogers and she was the Producer,a big thumbs up to her for getting involved in her show. They tried to pretty her up for later shows and the next show she produced/presented,Full Metal Challenge, but I don't think she was keen on being a dolly bird, good on her.

Sure they seeded the scrapheap, sometimes they have to,like when they made solid fuel rockets and steam powered vehicles, otherwise they just make sure the basic materials are there - I've seen enough engines that don't run etc to know that these are just random choices.I case you think I know too much about the show,it's hard not to - my boys have taped every show from the 1st series and still play them regualy...I'm happy to keep watching them, doing that stuff is right up my alley and I'd love to make some project out of what's at hand...I do a lot of that anyway.
