Like many on here I started on scooters many years ago, and sometimes hire them on holiday.
I have nothing against scooters per se, but there are many people who go out, buy a scooter, hop on and into traffic with no gear, no idea of how to ride a bike responsibly and who flaunt the road rules. They give bikes in general a bad name, and cause some of the 'ant-scooter' comments you may get. These people are not bikers and see 'bikes' like shopping trolleys.

You are not one of those people, and hopefully over time we can get those that are to move on up too. Being a 'biker' is about how you think not how you ride.

So have fun riding. And from someone who was in a crash at 17 in shorts on a scooter and has some raodrash up their legs still at 35 make sure you get gear!

90s - thanks for that piece of advice. I'm taking this scooter thing seriously because i think no matter what you're riding, bike/scooter/motorcycle, anything on 2 wheels in amongst the ones with 4 is a dangerous game. You are so much more vunerable than being in a car, especially with the amount of crazy drivers out on the road. For the sake of safety, I chose a bright coloured bike, NOT the cool shiny black one!! And I've got my full face helmet, looking for leather/textile jacket now, have leather boots and some riding gloves.

Now that's a good girl! I am liking what I hear!

Smashing your body bits or (god forbid) your face into the tarmac at 60 km/h
is just the same on a motorcycle as on a scooter. Yep!

It's always the old story of regret when you bin, 'I should have worn this and that, if I only knew better blah, blah, blah'.

But most importantly, it will save your most important womanly assets from being harmed and, saving you the trouble of not having a future husband!

    Cheers and stay upright!

Haaa! Great advice Hungus! I'll be sure to wear my wonderbra, oh and my helmet. By the way, does anyone ever wear the brain-damagingly bright orange vest with reflector stripes???

Hungus Maximist sounds like a cool, transformer-like name!

I've got the bright yellow vest. Being visible is a great thing. Fashion is for the catwalk.

Welcome Candy. It was a holiday scooter that got me back on bikes a few years ago and the fellas on here gave me grief about enjoying it.

I used to wear a green one during the winter months in London - dark when I left for and dark when I returned. I haven't since I've been here but really should - I just need to find a friend who works as a road digger who can "lend" me one.....

    Great title

All i can say is i was in the same vote .......... an i can say you just have to keep getting out there an ride like there's no tomorrow .........in a safe way of course. The more you ride the better you get at it.
I was concerned about the size an weight of my bike to as the tank seems large. But the more i ride the better i get and all i want to do is ride more an more .............dam weather dont help.

I also know that i have to keep telling my self to relax.

    have fun
