Ooohhh, I'm in love

Last night I was in Holshot Suzuki Takapuna getting the beast (GN250) serviced.

While I was out the back I saw a beautiful Triumph America in Blue and New England white. What can I say - this is the first bike that I have really (REALLY) loved the look of.

As Im currently on my "L" I cannot buy it (yet), but am researching for when I can get a bigger bike.

One question I have after reading (pouring) over the brochure last night is that it only has 59 bhp - this seems low compaired with other bikes (remember I've never ridden them - just read stuff). Is this a problem with the Triumph America - does it actually have enough get up and go for reasonable cruising - is overtaking a problem?

Sorry if it sounds a stupid question.

BTW - "Big Ups" to the team at Holshot. When carefully getting off an America trying not to kick the rocket III behind me I caught my boot on the seat of the America and ripped the leather The guys there were really cool about it and didnt make me feel like a moron.

Horsepower numbers are to allow people to measure virtual penis sizes.

My Ducati puts out 53hp and is fine at overtaking cars coz it puts out 50 Newton metres of torque.

In the real world torque is more useful. How much torque does it have and when does it deliver the torque?

With the high powered sports bikes (100hp+) only a handful of riders will actually use peak power for more than 1% of the time. Technology has reached the point where bikes are delivering more power that is useable by anyone but uber-humans (Like White Trash )

Ohyez. The Buell makes 110 hp, but the reason I own it is for the 115 Nm of torque. There's other nice bits, but the fact that I don't have to flip through a bunch of gears to find a narrow rev range where the power lives is the bestest bit.

Not true. You can purchase it, but you can't legally ride it on the road.

The America is a beautiful bike to ride. Probably the most enjoyable cruiser I have ever ridden. The power is not a handicap, there's plenty of torque there to prod you along.

Plus get the cams, carbs and exhaust done and you can add 30hp.

I LOVE the America.

The regular Bonnie engine is a willing wee thing, it's probably not as slow as you'd think.
