Here is said Triumph being pushed out of the "puddle"!

Ah yes the Exxon Valdez!! Ian made a great "tanker" captain and he certainly made the day in a couple of little country petrol tankers when he filled up the beast. I have it on good authority that he does get a bulk discount. As for the tanker crossing the creek, yes we did have the emergency services on stand by, there was a boom ready to put across the stream to stop any oil slick in case of an accident! But all credit to Ian he made the second crossing look very easy (now why were there screams at the first crossing demanding that someone take his glasses off?)
If you are ever lucky enough to ride with the three DR boys, be warned that there conversation seem to revolve around bottoms!! Must be an Auckland thing???
Some more pics of an excellent weekend. There were two creek crossings (same creek) first (the Triumph eater) was rocky and shallow while the second was a bit deeper with a smooth base.
Glad to hear that you all got back home safely.
Thanks for posting the pictures - even if it does make me green with envy![]()
Thanks Brent, for organising the ride and planning some interesting roads to follow. I really enjoyed the first bit, but sadly once again looks like i missed the best bit again ie just like the MMM ride. Good to meet you all and hope the next ride i will complete the whole thing.
Looks like you guys had a ball since i left you at the eight mile. Well, i had an interesitng ride back to TA, the bike getting slower and any hill even slower again, drained the carby changed the plug checked the wires etc but not much improvement, if at all, but i guesss i got home and didn't have to push so that was a major bonus. so i guess it will be into the shop for some major checkup. or a relacement bike emmm??
So hopefully we will see you all again, Bryan
Bit of bad luck with the bike Bryan.
I guess the morning warm up at Awakino was a warning sign. Fingers crossed that a simple top end freshen up is all that is required.
Your already penciled in for the next ride, and if a new bike is on the cards, then all the better.
See you soon.![]()
A couple of more photos.
Pic 1 Mt Pleasant Farm gate on the Opotiki Saddle.
Pic 2 Shady stop on the Kurarau Rd, heading for Ohura. (Fri was hot!)

Well done Brent, some great roads, good company, choice digs and a big thanks also to Kanny for the fine catering! Top effort folks!!
I gave the DR's extras a good shake down on this one, although I didn't manage an erection, everything else worked as it should have!!
I took the round Mt Karioi road, took an hour to cover the 30km; had to keep a good eye out for 'oncomings' !! So at that point I gave away doing the river crossings again; I could see myself doing a Triumph impersonation without you guys to have a good laugh and that wouldn't have been fair, eh?? So, it was out to Oparau for smoko then on via Okupata and Pekanui rds to Ngutunui....some great ridn thru here....and on to Wharepapa Sth for lunch. Just a couple of tarmax riders there, Bryce couldn't understand just where all the bikes where on a nice sunday??
I was having an 'easy rider' kind of day and was tempted to stop somewhere nice and try that erection I had missed, and maybe just chill-out for another night....but instead I went home and cooked dinner for the Mrs when she got home from her trip!
Top weekend, thanks all for the fine company, see you on the next one. Jamie.
Well done brent, well done guys!
The photos show how much fun you guys had and the great weather you got too. I had 2 reasons to pike out in the very end...
1) used up brownie points only 2 weekends ago when I shot off to raglan to camp with a mate on the bikes, we obviously rode all the nice waikato northern stuff.
2) Missus had first baby scan booked on the friday which I tried changing to thursday but didn't quite manage it!!!
The good news is that we're expecting baby #2 and all's going well, baby's due in May. Sorry Crisis couldn't quite be straight coming with the truth (as I wasn't allowed to say anything)
when is the next one Brent...?
Later,
Windboy.
Oh hell mate, Congratulations, Thanks for letting us know.
Wondered what you were up to. But there is no better reason than that. Best wishes to both of you, and rest assured, there will be more rides like the last.
(Kawhia Bach Base is already in the early stages already).![]()
Congrats Armando, there's nothing better than making babies!
Look forward to the next one, we've almost perfected drowning Triumphs so it's time to move on to a different marque......
Cheeky f**ker.
I'll get Kanny to make you a "special" quiche.![]()
Ooooooh, road kill cuisine is it......I'll catch me own sheep thanks!
I did forget to thank Kanny before, so a belated thanks for looking after us all!![]()
