Binned this afternoon...

Came off the m/way at Te Atatu, heading towards Te Atatu Sth.
Traffic was pretty heavy, so sat in the queue with the cages (not much room to split up there anyway)

Traffic is moving pretty slowly, when this idiot in a van decides to change lanes on me. Didn't even have time to hit the horn. I dodged to the left and hit the brakes - must've been a little too heavy-handed - ended up locking up the front, and down I go. I'm amazed the bike didn't go under the van.

The guy was very concerned and apologetic, though the amount of swearing I was doing may have encouraged that.

Bugger all damage to the bike - scuffed on one side and a small crack in the fairing. Glad I was wearing good gear - shoulder & hip armour took the impact - there's just a couple of scuffs. One hand is a little sore, sprained wrist. I reckon what I spent on gear has just paid for itself...

Fully looking forward to my new can, loud n proud is a good thing on a bike. That way at least the bastards can hear you if they can't (or choose not to) see you.

Yeah, got an apology from the cager... just a young guy.

Not worth claiming insurance for - just a small crack that's less than an inch long.
Apart from that and a bloody sore wrist, I reckon I got off lightly.

The kid looked like he was absolutely shitting himself when he walked back to me. Another cager just stopped in the middle of the road, helped me move the bike and made sure I was OK.

Hopefully the kid got enough of a scare to actually LOOK for bikes in future..

Did I mention how much I love Revit armoured gear?

Ah poopers, but at least you are alive and kicking! Take it all on board as a learning experience and just get back on the horse and keep riding!

It's hard to know when people are going to go all crazy on you, so ride like they will and treat them that way accordingly!

Glad to hear you're not nursing a much more serious injury. And the difference between going under the van and not was probably experience, anticipation and good gear. You live to fight another day, which is the best result for you and your family.

Report the accident to the police and claim on his insurance..... that would be if you got witness statements etc as his poor driving caused the accident...... or maybe I am just talking shit?

He shoud at least pay for some of his damage.
I was waiting at a roundabout once on my mountain bike and a cage hit me from behind and bent my rear wheel (mavix x618 for all you MTBers here). They didn't want police or insurance action so I took cash before letting them go.

Most important thing is I'm glad you are OK though
