    Flickr Kiwi Biker group

    Hey Guys,

I've just joined up with Flickr and started sticking a large number of photos online, Unlimited FTW!

I really like their interface and find it simple to use, so have setup a Kiwibiker Flickr group if anyone wants to join it to share bike pictures, either rides or meets or whatever.

I know we can host images off of KB, but given the costs that Spank's incurring to host all these files I figured I'd store mine where someone else can take the cost.

If anyone is interested it's http://www.flickr.com/groups/kiwibiker/

    Peace out.

    Question

I'm already on Flickr. Users for the K.B account will need a password, won't they?

    Depends really...

In order to post photos into the group you'd just basically apply for membership which is simple as clicking a button.

In terms of displaying the pictures, at the moment it's set to only those who are members of the group, but you could have it to display the images publically if you wanted.

Flickr is good BUT... if you have a free account, you'll only see the most recent 200 photos displayed. More than 200 and the oldest ones disappear. http://flickr.com/help/photos/#34
But groups can have tens of thousands of photos in them, so that's good for a kiwibiker group.

And is well worth it. Pics can be downloaded and saved in their original resolution etc. Flickr only allows low res downloads?

Not that i'm aware of, I use the Flickr app that resizes the images to 800x600 as it uploads them, but I chose that, you can tell it to upload raw images as far as I'm aware.

Can friends, relatives, etc download and save pics at their original resolution from Flickr or do they have to be bought?

Good idea. Have just added a couple of dozen of my kiwi bike shots to the group. As Zapf says tho things will get a little unwieldy if there are hundreds of shots from one event. I guess if we make sure the pics are tagged tho it will be easier to search them from the group.

    Question How do I...

...upload photos to the group? Or do I have yo wait for my membership to be approved?

I'm already a member of Flickr, I love it!

    Red face

Thanks for the heads up. I think I'll try a few uploads. Have been considering Smugmug as well. Cheers.
When you take thousands of photos of your bike does the light from the flash weaken the plastic?

All you need to do is click the option to become a member of the group, it's an open group so all for all, then you simply go into your photos and select 'send to group'.

Only thing on it though is that you can't organise the group pool into sets, which is a bit of a pain, but hopefully something that's been worked on.
