i'd be bloody tempted to flick said coppa 20 bucks for the let off. Consider DOT very friggin lucky any idea how much it would have cost to retrieve bike from pound and then the fine on top of that stop your moaning and thank your lucky stars.

My husband aint moaning his ass off, I am moaning my ass off, an not because he got a ticket, big deal, so what, you speed (and get caught) you get a ticket. Happens to all of us at some stage (if were unlucky). What Im moaning my ass off about is that the cop wanted him to dish dirt out on someone to get ticket lowered. Maybe you would dish out dirt on someone you knew but my hubby wont, unless its detrimental to someones life. He got pulled for F****n speeding, there was no need for the interogation on dishing out dirt. In my eyes, if you get caught speeding, you get a ticket, and always a lecture on speeding an go on your merry (speed limit, or lower) way. Oh and I can assure you if any one raped one of my daughters, i would shoot the bastard myself!!!!! My taxes pay for those resorts that are called prison.
Roads are actually quite good, but yeah, the idiot drivers usually getting it wrong, and the vast majority because of speed. The snakes hammer it often for the idiot speeder all the time.
No money needed... don't go thereHe only wanted some info on some local scrote... Not a bad deal really...
Yep... picked up the pieces, or received in the mortuary, of what was once a human, torn apart because of the SPEED.
There are photos too, but not ideal family viewing...
But yeah, inattention, shite skill and stupidity probably contributed too... Maintenance wasn't a problem in the ones I know of, all cars were good condition.
So instead of moaning why not stand up and fight it. Call the complaints line tell them the truth that he was driving at 147 take the ticket, fine, impounded bike, loss of licence and take the cop to task.
So - do you have the morals and fortitude to stand up for what you believe in or are you just going to moan about it?
As for this being detrimental to someones life - they are not looking for other speeders or people who have littered. The people that are being dobbed in have done something that caused harm (emotional / physical / financial) to others - I have sympathy to the victims not the offenders.
Would I ever dob people in - I did as recently as yesterday (I *555'ed his ass) - I assume that you find that poor behaviour as well?
Now now
The first time I got burgled (loss in excess of $12,000) it took five days for the cops to turn up. The second time, it took about 20 minutes from the discovery of the theft (loss about $250) but only because when I reported the theft, the dispatcher must have got a little worried when I said the sole item taken was an air pistol. When the cops turned up, they were under the impression it was a real firearm.
Patrick, I usually agree with what you say (especially when some prick makes an assumption that because Clint Rickards was accused of rape, the whole Police force is made up of rapists) but that statement is complete bollocks.
Going faster than the speed limit does not cause crashes. Inappropriate speed can cause crashes, and the faster one goes, the more serious the accident is likely to be. The LTSA are complicit in this deception as they lump both definitions of speeding together and refuse to provide accident statistics for each individually. Although my knowledge of what goes on in NZ is a little sketchy I do know something of what goes on in the UK, where the figures for serious accidents attributed to speeding are pretty similar.
Over there, 'speeding' gets attributed as a cause of an accident automatically if any vehicle involved in the accident is adjudged to have been going faster than the speed limit. My dad's best friend and business partner's fatal accident was put down to him speeding. It was estimated that he was doing 37mph in a 30mph zone. Straight road, perfect visibility and some blind bitch in an Remuera tractor pulls out of a side road five metres ahead of him. It wasn't the fact the woman was not paying the slightest bit of attention or didn't even glance in the direction of oncoming traffic - no, it was because he was speeding.
Practically every fatal accident report in the newspaper I see here has the same thing; "speed may have been a factor in the accident". It's an automatic response to say that if the person was going faster than the limit, it was the fact they were speeding that led to the accident. What complete and utter shite. A few years ago, TRL in the UK did a study of accidents over a six month period across the country. They re-examined the causes of accidents and the findings weren't very popular with the powers that be. Amongst the top causes of accidents were inattention, failure to give way, inappropriate speed and drunk driving. Exceeding the speed limit came a pretty long way down the list, being found to be the causal factor in just 3% of crashes and a contributory factor in 7%. Not quite the 33% the government at the time were claiming.
For the last six years, this country's heard nothing but 'speed kills'. This has done nothing but harm to the state of driving in this country as now the majority of drivers think that provided they're doing under the speed limit, they're driving safely; no matter if they happen to be putting on make-up, drinking coffee, adjusting the stereo, texting their friend and shouting at the kids - simultaneously. Whilst it's true that Police don't set the policy, they have bee complicit in this message and are therefore as guilty as the government and LTSA for the reversal of the year on year decrease in the road toll that had been evident since 1990.

You know - I should save this message. I'll no doubt be using it again in the vain hope that someone might actually listen...
i once got done 94 in a 50 and had a wee bribe with said officer....
got him to drop the speed to 80 something so it put me on 95 demerits, then he gave me another fine (containing no demerits) to make up for it, $600 driving in a manner liable to cause damage.

To every man upon this earth
Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods
I think he was saying that the other fine was for something that did not carry demerits, not speeding. The value of which equaled what he would have paid for the full speeding ticket.

Gotta disagree with ya there fella...
Stuff the stats, I am talking about what actually happened. Usually falling off a bend, losing control into oncoming traffic or at the end of a passing lane merging back into one... the HUGE skid marks in all of them say "speed is clearly a factor."
Simple really...
