    New Tenere rumour

So many great adventure bikes rumoured, new transalp, KTM 690 Rally, and now a new Yamaha Tenere.
XT660 with big tank and screen, I'd have one (if it's a lot cheaper than the 690...).

    Babelfish translation:
To the Hall of Milan, as it announces Motorcycling of July, it will come introduced the new Yamaha Ténéré. These the caratterisitche main: motor 660 to injection of the MT-03, perhaps increased in power and the maximum brace, new chassis in steel, suspensions adapted to enduro and the wheels from 21-17. For the rest, forcellone in light alloy, it completes instrumentation that could inglobare a GPS and a double dakariane front beacon that resumes that one of the motion, while the posterior beacon has one double row of led.

That is a seriously dodgy looking photochop/crayon effort, pipes under the engine on a dirtbike are never going to be paid for with my money. It does look better than the XT660X tho.

    Cheers

    That has adventure/touring potential.
Bit more of a fuel tank would be nice.

Must admit I do like the looks; it reminds me of some cartoon drawings of dirt bikes that I liked... from about 15 years ago... but they were schweet! Also it's short wheelbase/tall height is reminiscent of the Rallye bikes.

Agree with Clint and Fran. Instead will have to point out the twin front discs and low front guard, both are bug-bears on the 640 Adventure.

But will be great to have another bike in the class.
    Cheers,
    Colin

while I love the look (except maybe the fairing - screams ktm wannabe) - do you notice that they have removed the partial lower front guard. How long before the radiator eats a rock or just clogs completely (I've done the latter even with the lower guard in place). The front guards on these things are all about styling and have very little to do with keeping shit off you or the bike

Sat on a mates 640, other than the fact I could only tippy toe on it, it had the high mud guard, I understand they changed to the lower one? Why? Road bias?

They use low guards in events like the Dakar 'cos there aint much mud in the desert. They fit those same guards to adv bikes so you can have that cool Dakar look.
They are also better for high speed stability, hence the fitment to 200+ km/h capable machines like the KTM 950, the newer 640's have the same front forks, wheel, brake setup as the 950 and got the low guard with it.

    Cheers

Decent tail rack, high pipes, ability to strap panniers on, high front guard and 18l+ fuel tank could get me interested. Sounds like a KTM Adv but the Tenere would hopefully be cheaper, need less maintenance have frugalish fuel injection.

    Cheers R

My KLR has arrived!! It's sitting out the back at Sawyers and I'll pick it up on friday (been waiting for the thing for six months and now its here I'm laid up with the flu and too crook to pick it up). I had a quick look onTuesday and it's a bit bigger than I imagined
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.
