    Hi Kerry Welcome to NZ
Ive just read this post fom start to finish and am very proud to be a member of KB Apart from a couple of scumbags who always like to be objectionable, the support for your brother is truly Kiwi
From me and mine, best wishes to your brother and i hope you get to see some of our wonderful country with him. I am sure i will get to meet him when he stops me on the moterway in the near future where i will try to convince him i wasnt speeding
Thanks for the update and keep them coming cause we are all concerned when one of ours has a fall

Quick update for all those that want to know...

Nick has had his tracheotomy tube removed today and has been able to speak for the first time - which to me (and the rest of us) seems like a miracle! He is not out of the woods yet - but his temperature has come down quite a bit, so seems to be winning the pneumonia battle and he has some more movement in his right leg now (left seems relateively ok) MRI scan due this week
It's looking more positive - so fingers crossed
He said that he thinks that he might be in hospital for about another week (bless him!) and has seen his children which is a real boost for him

thanks again to all those who have posted the messages of good will - and thanks to those that have replied to me welcoming me to NZ - I will be back in November time too - to spend some more time with Nick - he has promised me a tour of the place - but perhaps not on the back of a bike!?!?

    From Aussie.

Just read through from start to finsh.

I very much hope all turns out well for Nick and his family.

Being the boring old fart I am never really had a run in with the law, but have a new found respect for them after the events of 2nd December.

Get well soon, from the OZ chapter of KB.

    Cheers

Ha ha can't keep a good man down! Hope he manages to keep some of that optimism during this whole life-changing experience.

Thanks for the update, Kerry. Yay for him being able to talk again! Dunno what I'd do if I had to stop talking!

As Nick continues on his road to recovery, there will still be plenty of people here who are keen to help. These are genuine offers, so please don't be shy about asking when you, your folks, Lisa or Nick need some cheering up.

I'm sure we'll come into our own when he's a bit better - that's when he's likely to feel really frustrated about the time he's taking to heal... and hospitals can be very boring places! Then I'm sure we can make his life a little more interesting. The staff will soon get used to the squeak of leather and the clumping of bike boots down those corridors!

    Hello Kerry

I live in Christchurch, capital of New Zealand, and I am going to pass on your message to a mate of mine Geoff Bowers who is also a friend of Nic's. They were in the same cross over wing at the Royal New Zealand Police College. Geoff is aware that he has had a crash and I am keeping him up to date. I will also send Nic a card.

Thank you! He is still very confused about things - but the positive thing is that he knows he is confused - he told Lisa "I know I am talking bollocks... give me a minute, I'll come back to you!!"
He has such a long journey ahead - and no guarantees - but I am sure that seeing fab people like you will only aid his recovery!

    Take care

As others have said - welcome to NZ - wish it was under more pleasant circumstances...

Let us all know if there is anything we can do to help eh?

When it comes time - a relaxing tour of NZ might be the ticket - BBQ at our place and a bed if you need it...

Nick is, as you know, still very poorly and still in ICU, but there is hope that he will soon be moving to a High Dependancy ward
It will be a long long road for him - but with the support he has - not only Lisa, who is amazinlgy strong, but all those close to him and some fab friends (have met some of the other officers and they are really lovely!) he will get there
His is able to communicate as Biker Cop has described - and is often aware of what's going on around him

So, a huge thank you again to you all! You are very much appreciated!

    Nick... update

    Hi everyone

As promised, an update on Nick...

He is out of ICU (horray!) and is in a High Dependancy Ward
He is talking - and he and I have had some great short chats - and despite still getting very confused at times and experiencing difficulty remembering the words he wants, especially when he is tired, he is getting to be more "with it" as time goes by

He is frustrated that he can't go home and keeps telling us all that he'll be out by the weekend!

Physically, he is seeing Physios daily and has even briefly stood up today! They are still very concerned about his right hand side, they are still not sure what range of movement he will regain

He is eating a little (despite telling me that he isn't!)

So, all in all, he has made some incredible progress - a testament to the strength of character he has and the motivation that he has to get better (largely due to his lovely wife and children I am sure!) and to the great medical staff at Middlemore Hospital

It seems a bloomin' miracle to me that I can tell you this given where he was 10 + days ago!

Watch this space... I'll let you know when he's dancing around the ward!!!

    Kerry
