Hi everyone

well... I am absolutely delighted to report that the hospital have sent Nick home to recover in his own environment!!! He will have lots of support and rehab etc (they are still monitoring everything, especially his head) but feel that he will be a lot happier with Lisa and the children around him... so his wish and all out prayers have been granted!!!!
He has a long way to go - but he's on the road!!! Amazing!

I spoke to him last night (UK time), this morning (NZ time) and he was praying that they would let him go - and he told me that someone from KiwiBiker had been in to see him (Donor, you, I expect) and that he was really pleased to see you! When he is able I know he will take a look at all these messages and no doubt share some of the jokes that are coming through now (thankfully we can do that now!)

And you're right Klingon...not a chance that we'll let him on a bike again - think he'll be wrapped in cotton wool for a good while yet!

I wrote to the All Blacks to see if they could do anything for him (Nick is a BIG fan!) and they sent him a signed framed photo and get well card - bloody amazing!!! Nick is chuffed! So... despite them being out of the World Cup, these amazing Kiwis have shone again!!! Thanks a million!

Spoke to Lisa just now and he is in his own bed snoring his head off...fantastic!

I have been asked by a few of you where to send cards etc - I would say Pukekhoe Police Station - one of the fab guys there will drop things round to Nick - he's just a couple of mins away from there now

I am the Cop that crashed his bike on route to a Fatal crash (nearly became one myself). Thank you all for your concerns, it is great to know that bikers do stick together no matter what job they do. I am out of Middlemore and back home now. Lets see if i can tell you what happened, well to be honest i dont remember, the crash has wiped out three and a half weeks including being in the coma. I was pretty bashed up, i got 6 broken ribs, fractured right arm, broken right shoulder front and back, fractured left hand, numerous fractures to my spine, smashed front teeth and a bruised brain. All i can say is that thank god for my Police issue BMW helmet. It was destroyed but i am here to tell the story. It definately pays to have good gear as you only have one body and what price do you place on that!
I was very lucky to have these injuries, it could have been a lot worse as they gave me 30% chance of surviving at one point. The Ambos had to work on me on route. I am walking and now getting into the gym to regain some of the strength in my legs and shoulders.
I have a lot of people to thank, firstly Lindsay the Ambo who worked on me, all the staff in ICU at Middlemore they made my family and friends so welcome and always had time to explain what was happening with me, to all the staff on the ward (they had to endure my week of Tourettes syndrome, sorry), all the Kiwibiker subscribers for their thoughts and especially the card i received (that was really special to me), to all my work colleagues and friends (especially Adam and Wayne) and most importantly to my family.
I am on the road to recovery but it will take time, the brain injury is the hardest. I took a pretty hard hit to my head and am lucky i dont have serious head injuries.
Again thank you for your concern I can never thank you enough. i have been overwhelmed at the concern for me it means so much to me, thank you. And Donor i think it was you who came and saw me thanks for taking the time out to visit me, it meant a great deal to me. And unfortunately i wont be getting back on the horse, the wife has put her foot down as it nearly cost me my life. Plus i wouldnt want to put my family through that again. Anyone want to buy a BMW 1150GS?? Will always be into bikes and maybe i may get one again! Take care everyone and ride carefully.

Mate, that is wonderful news ... I know when I met your colleague, he was very concerned about your condition, but like all of us, we hoped for the best and heard what a fighter you were. It's amazing that you put yourself into the line of fire for the citizens here when you were responding to that fateful callout.

Just glad you are able to continue your journey with your family and friends for a while longer yet (and yes, I guess you will be keeping your options flexible in regards to two wheels of freedom!)

Hope the rehab goes well and you get back to doing what you love!

Welcome Nick!! Good to hear from ya in person finally and great to hear you're progressing well. All the best to you and your family. As for the tourettes, blame it on the clientelle we so often have to put up with... some of it has to rub off on ya?

Welcome back Nick. That was a very bad-ass crunch, we're glad you made it. Now that we've all 'met' you, we're not going to get to meet you on a ride - and that's pretty understandable. Maybe at a KB get together, I hope you get the opportunity to meet the Auckers crew at least.

Have SCU been able to piece together what happened? I know I'm still pissed that nobody saw mine - no style points.

So glad to hear you are on the mend. Of course you'll be back on the bike after a while - your wife wouldn't expect you to stop driving if you were involved in a bad car crash now, would she?

You just won't be going at warp factor 10 anymore, is all . . .

After a head injury accident (not bikes), I promised my wife I wouldn't ride on the road anymore, she and the kids gave me a KDX200 for my birthday about four years later and it's been an amazing tonic. Meeting some really good people on here helps too....
