No ofence but judging by you attitude you just need to learn to slow down, or do what I did and by a radar detector

Caning at 160kmph? My ZX10 does that in first and does it FAST.
My Superduke is bloody quick however it's EASY to ride it at 100kmph
So which one came with the "suicide gear shift" system??...

But yes, I'd tend to agree that a naked one helps...

Agreed. Or possibly a fully fared litre IL4 bike makes it easier to ride faster. Whichever.

I used to ride these monsters but switched to Supermotos for 2 reasons:

    1. I had 11 points on my license (12=ban) (of course I can still speed on a moto but it's just not as easy or comfortable....)
    2. I used the bike to commute through London and just found the whole upright, flickable, wider steering lock, thing with motos worked better for this.

Still dream about another GSXR1000 though.....

I decided on the KTM Superduke and hell,no regrets!!
I liked it so much that now I'm trying to sell my '07 ZX10R SE so I can buy the new Superduke R!

Now then...open roads the KTM is quite happy to pootle along at 100-120kmph and you know how fast you're going as opposed to "pootling" on the ZX10 where 200 odd kmph seems like walking. Oh don't get me wrong,it will grunt out to 240+ however it's not as effortless as a big inline 4.
In the corners it's actually faster (if wanted) than the ZX10....I was shocked TBH!
Long distance...divine! No cramps...can see everything especially when there's some lane splitting to be done.

I've been converted to the upright nekkids and I had always been a yeee haa inline 4 rider.
Cheers, thats exactly the sort of thing im after. Do they go alright two up? I wont be doing much but i want the option if you know what i mean.

I went from a Hayabusa to the current, a Cagiva Navigator which is like a big traillie powered by a punchy TL1000 engine. It'll still do 240Kays but its one hell of a lot of fun on a tight piece of road... I'm sort of thinking KTM's as well for the future.

If you like speeding and moving fast, buying a naked will not slow you down.
I bought a GSX1400 cos I figured my youthful days of moving quick were over and a sports tourer would be the ticket.

The GSX1400 is the only bike you can buy brand new for $10.00 a CC.
$13995.00!!! They are way underestimated and awesome value for the price.

It wasn't long after I had it that the speeds were creeping up and after the first few rides through twisty roads, I relaised these machines could be tossed around like a sports bike once you set your suspension right and ride smoothly to make up for the lack of ground clearance.

They are an awesome all around machine, great for two up riding, easy to ride hard when you want to with all day comfort. Performance? 2.9 to 3 seconds to 100kmh. Torque just below the Busa but 90% of it available at 2000 rpm so fantastic for road riding and coming out of corners.

I have ridden mine fully pinned (without fairings remember) at 260kmh. A tight fitting set of leathers gives you streamlining, tucking your head well down and having a good streamlined helmet helps immensely as does ear plugs as at those speeds it's like riding into a tornado.

I regularly still see 200-230kmh speeds and have told myself over and over again when I go riding that I will not go over 140kmh but can't help it after a couple of minutes into a ride.

I do however have a top range detector which has saved me heaps of times.
I have actually pulled back riding hard considerable since after my off but still like to move at a reasonable pace. I too must slow down.

I have swapped with others and have ridden ZX14's, GSXR1000's including the latest, 600's, R1's etc and always just love geting back on my bike.

Did I mention that I love my GSX1400?

No, but I agree it is a great bike. I have allways looked at them as a sort of a behemoth tourer. Took Paul's for a wrap one day, mate it feels like a bike half its size, stable and it turned remarkably quick. All with a sensible riding position and stacks of torque. As one who has also (attempted) followed him over the Coro loop on more than one occasion I can vouch for its swift and nimble manner.

My 2cents worth. I've owned a VTR1000 and three 636s (05 and 06 models) and I found the 636s easier to ride at 100-110kph when trying to be legal. The VTR motor wasn't pleasant in that range and would creep up, whereas the 636 hummed comfortable at whatever you set it at and would not creep up on you.
The other advantage was that the 636 would get up and move much better when asked!
    Stick with the 636

    Great news,

I just brought an 05 CB900 Hornet. Its everything i wanted. Cheers DMNTD for getting me thinking about the Duke monster. I didnt have enough moey for the duke do i went for the Honda. I test rode heaps of bikes and found the hornet a great bike for a great price. Its awsome two up, suprisingly flickable in the corners and has a less thrash the shit out of me vibe than the 6rr had. Granted different bikes for different people and budgets but im stoked with this new purchase.

I was VERY concerned that i was shedding my sports bike love affair way to eary and getting a more middle aged persons bike too early. (no offence, but you know what i mean) Anyway, all my fears were unfounded and this bike is perfect for what i want to do. Its even kinda fun at legal speeds...(cant believe it).

Its realy put the fun in "just riding" for the enjoyment of it. I cant believe how well it handles for what it is. Only gripes are the windshield (removed on day one) looks like shet and she is pretty quiet.

    Project, yay

Just want to thank everyone for their input and just letting you all know my next bike purchase was a complete succsess thanks to some of your input and different angles.

Its bloody raining.....gutted, wanna go for a hoon

I know they (sports tourers) arnt slow but i think maybe they are better at going slow (100kph) if you know what i mean.
it's all in your head au! keep ya good bike, just chose roads with sweepers that cap at 120kph, keep her steady on the straight bits to keep mr plod out ofthe equation-and go back to the sweepers on your well selected road problem solved. for free. ps. my bike will go 100 in 1st,second, and 4th, but is practically stalling in 5th and 6th. I swear to god it is possible to self-council yourself to ignore your top 3 gears on the straights by recounting the following "it's 600 bucks followed by no license"
