First bike you did a Ton on.

Did the ton on a bonivelle in the earlly 70s
Probably wasnt the the ton..but felt like it...virbattled like shit
latter on had a honda,,,did the the ton in 3rd gear
how things have changed

Was back in 1968 on a 66 Bonnie T120. Gives me the shivers now to think that it was done in tee shirt and jeans, can't remember about a helmet as they were optional back then (and bloody ugly) but i do remember the "biggles" style goggles.

Twas also a trusty T500 for me, around 1974. When the cop (in his 1300 Cortina) caught up, eventually, I got done for 'estimated 65-70mph'. No radar, see, and he couldn't go over that on his speedo to get the 1/4 mile reading required.

Strange thing about those bikes was the ultra-low gearing. 4th and 5th were both overdrives. But insufficient hp to top 112mph in 4th...and 5th couldn't even maintain that

The T500 was one of the most popular bikes in its day and deservedly so! I was going to do the usual "drop the counter-shaft sprocket a tooth" mod which would have brought 5th into play and apparently raised the top speed to around 115mph, but had to sell the bike to get married so never did find out the truth of that mod.

Sold it in '77. Still got the Missus, though, and a new Suzuki which funnily enough seems to have similar performance to the old 500...

first time ?? 1965 or 66 .. on a Arial Square Four 1000cc and at 110mph the two back cylinders overheated and eventually siezed byt the time it was back to 50mph.. resulting in two scoops fitted to keep em cool next time.., and yep, Jeans, leather jacket, Half helmet and goggles... must have been nuts...

BEAT THE LOT OF YOU.

I went over !00mph in the late 1950's on a 1000cc Vincent Rapide.

I did this on the first, just completed, section of the Auckland motorway at Panmure.

The Vincent was the fastest thing on two or four wheels at that time. The magnificent speedo whent up to 120.

I seem to remember that if your Vincent would not do 100 you could return it for one that would.

Most contempory production bikes that you could buy did little more than 80 mph (130Ks) My 1950 AJS would shake a bit over 75 so I cruised at 70 (115k) No radar or helmets then.

Yeah, got a Puscort Sport after it, then a CBR 400, as I worked out how boring cars were... Something bad happened to that one though.
Then I got an RG myself.... and a collection of engine parts to fill the mantle piece after a year of owning it....
So got another CBR 400.... Those were the days when i could fit on a little bike ;-)

Back in 1997 on my first bike (1990 Kawasaki GPX250R) on my restricted license, had it up to an indicated 165kph or so on a backroad just outside Hamilton on my morning ride to high school... I wasn't late that day
