On a CB400T closely behind a Ducati GT860. Around 1980.
Hayabusa wooo hoooo 230...... I am sure he thought he was on the runway still..Scared ha famous words from lion king "I laugh in the face of danger"
2nd day I owned the 996 on the miranda flats. won't say the actual speed because of my reallife occuaption invloving bikevids of latelets just say ***if the speed needle goes past the 12 o'clock position 200kph is history and the bike isn't even getting started, it's handling completely normally and smoove and the speed doesn't even feel that fast...it's only the needle that reminds you whats going on. that's scary. actually...not as scary as trying to get to the top peed of 160kph on the srv250. that involved contortionist squeeze-balling into the space behind the 6"headlight, the suspension malching around and trying to time the run so it's down-hill

No idea of the date, but it would have been when I was 17 (ahile ago now...) on a RD250LC. Bike would not go much faster, but was quick to get there.![]()
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.
In 1981 on a Honda 650 turbo when they first came out - it belonged to a mate of mine and we were on a round the lakes trip near Nelson. He let me take it for a spin on my own while we were on lunch break. Those were the days
Some of these claims are funny, maybe it's a case of memory playing tricks. It has brought back memories. A few things though, RD250s(air cooled) would only do 160k off a cliff, H2s didn't have any trouble keeping the front wheel on the ground at speed, the problem was keeping it pointed where you wanted to go. And a mate had one of those Kawasaki 350 triples and it'd pull 1000 into the red in top but still wasn't as fast as the best RD350B and talk about use petrol. It used way more than any of our cars.
All such good fun and despite later learning that "speed kills" we are all still here after spending all our youth on fast bikes trying to make them go as fast as they possibly could.
GS1000 about 1982. Shit, I had hair back then!
About 20 yrs ago,2 up on a gsxr750 going to castrol 6 hour, mate had just bought it,had been run in.Left Hawera at 10.40 and was in over bridge in Wanganui at 11.20,scraped pegs going through goat valley too,met up with a guy on a bmw and couldn't keep up.Cruised into Fielding from Sanson as a few cops about and a good group of bikes in convoy, sitting down at manfield at high noon for the start.
Sadly can't recall by myself alone though.Does 160km in my dato 1200sss,120y sss, celica and accord count, sure does in my v8 fairmont on lpg though lol.
