Just as the title says, I was on my way home from work today (roughly a 40 mile ride) and I was stuck in traffic. The road home is a 4 lane highway with a median betw. north and south lanes. I was in the left lane (closest to the median) about 4 car lengths behind a semi. This semi was right next to another semi. I was boxed in behind and to the side.

The semi infront of me ran over a piece of lumber ( looked like a 2 foot piece of 2X4 used for a tiedown). That kicked it up and it bounced. I saw the board and had nowhere to go, so I layed into the brakes and braced for the worst. Just then, Mr. hero swerved in front of me and took the 2X4 in the windshield of his Ranger.

He pulled over and so did I to make sure he was ok. He said he rides too and that board would have killed me, so he did what any other self-respecting biker would have.

Needless to say, I owe this dude my life.

The time for all this to occur (another driver seeing the danger, assessing the situation, planning a course of action and putting it into action without harming anyone else), while the rider claims to have no time to react all point to it being a whole load of bollocks. Not even in a Hollywood movie would it make sense.

Sounds like a traffic infringement.
We can assume with lightspeed reaction and urgent move like that the driver would certainly fail to indicate the lane change at least 3 seconds prior to commiting the move. That is one big flaw that can cause accident anytime.

Secondly, coming into your lane abruptly like that would require the rover driver to squeeze between you and the vehicle in front of you due to the fact that you are "boxed in" (i.e., not a lot of room to manouvre). This would definitely infringe into failing to keep safe following distance between him and the car in front, also you and his car. Double infringements.

I recommend sueing the Rover driver for causing high risk of accident to your part.

And reading that this driver just simply swerve like that, I asume the driver must be asian? Damn those asian drivers, keep changing lanes like they're in Hong Kong or something. First they crash everywhere, not they're saving life. Sue them, don't let them get away!

He stopped the bike and put it on its side stand.

The biker slammed on his brakes, the rover didnt. maybe that explains how he was able to get infront of the biker and catch the plank and then swerve out of it... sounds like one of those "you just had to be there" storys... good effort tho if its no bs... lucky shit

Well i mise well make my first post here (gidday!!) .. Im not sure what to think of the first post but maybe he was superman in disguise.. Well anyways i have a story lol.. Was driving a car along Greville road onramp heading south to mway with biker following.. Of all things there was a bloody mattress lying half in the bus lane half in the slow lane. I could see biker gaining speed behind me and since the motorway was fullish but flowing i had a weird feeling biker was gonna shoot up bus lane. Bikers lucky i hit the anchors and pulled to the buslane making him/her swerve around me to the right ! Biker was prolly pissed at me but i really do think i did the right thing.. Kinda hard to explain and yes sometimes you just need to be there to comprehend. You know how you cruise up to a roundabout and have that feeling the cars gonna go round it without indercating so you stop anyway?
