Suzuki have always done this, they have no middleman in NZ, the Suzuki franchise is owned by Suzuki Japan. These sales affect all other brands as well, to maintain price parity. When you trade in a honda of equivalent type, the resale is determined by others in that class.

a mate of mine is in the market for a new R1 at the moment. No Yamaha dealer he has seen is prepared to drop under ~$20k.

Pitty he wont buy a Suzuki, no matter how cheap it is...

No shit............you would think they would do a skinny deal at 20k just to get another number up.I sold Toyotas for 5/6 years way back and can remember my mate who worked at a Nissan dealership selling the odd new one for no profit, they claim it back from Nissan anyway, there used to be 12.5 % profit in a new car, wonder how much there is on a bike.

That's just symptomatic of Yamaha not actually wanting to shift units in New Zealand. there are ither markets they care about and they'l leave NZ to Suzuki, Yamaha, Ducati, Aprilia and Kawasaki.

Yup I have. Bike Rider Magazine has a brochure in it. I bought a new SV thou on monday. Saved a few bucks because of the promo. MR motorcycles in Pukekohe. Did a great job of matching the prices I got quoted from two other Auckland stores.

    Buy a classic.

Mine's worth ten times what any new bike is.

    Re sale value ?
I'm looking at the options for a large capacity road bike. I did hear yesterday, that Busas' won't be summerfested, which doesn't help me much. Gaz.

I was having the conversation with a Honda dealer the other day.

Suzuki are fucked in the head. The suddenly drop their prices uber low, pricing all their competitors out of the market, and the loyal suzuki buyer, who just paid full retail price has just been shafted as far as resale value goes - therefore less money to spend on another suzuki, so he fucks off and buys something else.

Not very clever (or morale) busy practice really...
