    Best place for baby dirt-bikers?

    Hello!

We're looking to move over to New Zealand around January, maybe sooner. We are thinking of Tauranga although need to be near where there is lots of construction going on as hubby is a Carpenter/Bricklayer.

Another crucial aspect of where we live is that my two sons aged 9 and 6 (and husband) ride dirtbikes. It’s all we live for at weekends here in the UK and we’d like to be able to ride as much if not more once we are over there.

I have looked at all the helpful advice at the top off this forum but thought I would ask advice from you MX’ers who are located out there.

If you could name the best area with access to lots of MX tracks located (especially for kids) where would you suggest?

    Thanks in advance!

    Nicola

Thank you! We'll pay you a visit once we're there!

Do you have many people ride at yours? Over here there is no room to ride....

The local Waimakariri River (Christchurch) has a couple of free tracks for both adults & kids, plus you can do charity trail rides around the place & off course there are the MX clubs events.
I guess the North island (bigger population) probably has more tracks for serious MX but there are clubs all over NZ with regular events.

Taupo is probebly the biggest mini mx club around, and with tracks at rotorua, tokoroa only 45 mins away it is the most centrally located palce out,

also pleny of building work around thier as well

    Northwest Auckland another option.

Housing is more expensive (but affordable if you're coming in from the UK I expect) and Woodhill is a great dirt biking area.

Here's a RE agent that will give you an idea on house prices
Here's a map that'll help you find up the areas in question.

Huapai, Helensville, Kaukapakapa, Kumeu are close to the action (I'm in Kumeu), and you're close enough to Auckland so an independent brickey/tradesman should be able to pick up some work around the place easily enough

Hope that's a start anyway. As other will mention - there are a lot of places in NZ that suit your needs. I picked those because of the population base as a source of work. Wellington, Christchurch, Taurange, Hamilton and New Plymouth would also offer similar but I'm not sure where the dirt riding is.
$2,000 cash if you find a buyer for my house, kumeuhouseforsale@straightshooters.co.nz for details

    Hi Nicola,

Tauranga is a great place and is second to Queenstown as far as urban developement is concerned (lots of residential construction). There are numerous MX tracks within 1 hour and there are always trail rides on most weekends.
If hubby is more aligned within the commercial construction industry them somewhere close to Auckland (NZ biggest city) might be better. Probably more scope as far as riding goes due to the numbers. Every weekend there is always places/rides/events on.

Places/clubs worth checking out for starters.

    www.waitematamcc.co.nz
    www.thesandpit.co.nz
    www.amamx.co.nz

Also there are great MX tracks all over the place in NZ. Generally as you talk to people you find out where they are. A lot of people have private tracks at home that you will get invited to,we do (a couple in fact).

    Yeah, Nor West Auckland

Thank you everyone who has replied. I won’t quote you all individually but I have noted your replies and the ones with links I’ve saved. Thank you all so very much!

I love the idea of parties at people’s MX tracks! What in life could be better? BBQ, beers and bikes! Initially when we come over we’ll be renting first off while we look for work and schools. Once we have settled in a bit, we would really like to buy some land to build our own house and a track if possible! Of course when this happens - We’d like to invite any fellow dirt-bikers over too!

We’ve tried to immigrate properly with all our checks complete but they wont issue us a Visa without a job offer - and no-one will take on a brickie/chippie they haven’t yet met. So we’ll be over by January looking hard for work.

Over here in the UK we live an hour’s drive (in a few directions) to several MX tracks - where normally someone is trying to close them down! They obviously can’t hack people having fun!

I’ve looked at some of the links you’ve gave me and we cannot wait to come over. Not only do you live is such a beautiful, breath-taking country - you have so many places to ride! Woodhill looks amazing!

    Thanks again!

my suggestion would be look other than tauranga, as wages in tauranga from what ive seen seem to be lower than almost anywhere else, or st least they were 9 months ago when i was looking to move someplace else, nice place otherwise tho, auckland is definately where the $$ is tho

well living in west auckland i can say there is plenty of riding around, for us mostly in woodhill forest and quite a bit down south of auckland. plently of work too, but property can cost alot more than elsewhere

taupo is a good place for riding, snow, and it's beautiful too (auckland region is just suburbia for miles).

my suggestion would to buy a 12 acre block on the edge of a major city and ride on that. added bonus is that in 10 years you can sell up for about 5 times what you bought it for (well it works for us, but now we dont wanna sell)
