You race them Quallman?? How fast have you been on it without blowing it up?? lol. thanks for the welcome
You probably needed to take it easy for 1000k's so the engine had time to bed in.
The temp guages on the RG do work, but when it get over half way your fucked and should crawl it home.
Check ya bearings boss - hopefully they are still there lol

Yeah, it's like when no-one called me up to say you need to jet up a PE400 if it's only used full bore on the roadI ended up giving the rest of the bike to a friend who had a PE400 (Not suggesting your bike is so terminal)
Won't know bout bearings unless you take a look or just rebuild it and hope for the best - but thats a pretty bad way of going about it if it died at 160k.
Yeah you've gotta take it easy for at least 500km after a rebuild. I didn't really take mine into the powerband until 800+ after my rebuild and it's still going strong 5,000kms on.
Regarding racing, i've taken mine to a trackday and ridden a club one at a streetstock event.
Mine is geared slightly differently to the racebikes, and indicated about 165 ish down ruapuna back straight. The club bike i used was showing 175k down levels backstraight but it was more healthy than mine I think. Probably powervalves adjusted better + gearing.
Have a go rebuilding it yourself. It's a two-stroke, it'll be about as hard to do a rebuild as it is to do your average 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle.
That's what I did when I toasted my first bike, my CB250RS. I didn't have a choice -- no money -- and I ended up with a great bike for a few notes, and learned heaps (from knowing nothing about engines to now at least knowing which way up a valve goes).
I'm sure somebody had a thread where they rebuilt an RG150 and posted photos for every step of the way.
I'll give you $100.00

Find a Haynes manual for it (Wellington library has a good selection of car & m/c manuals, so your local one may too). By working on smaller, cheaper bikes, you'll pick up the skills in much the same way everyone does. Having someone look over your shoulder helps, but not essential. A socket set and a few other basic tools and you're away.
I rebuilt my DR600 motor but ended up having to take it in to Wgtn M/Cs as it couldn't get into 4th gear. Turned out I had a selector fork in the gearbox backwards, but they were good about it, it was cheap and I learned another lesson - that's how people get good at looking after their bikes.
Actually being a 2t its about as easy as making a 10 peice puzzle as you dont have to worry about valve lash, cam timing etc etc, just take of the barrel pull the piston pin you if you can and replace all the other parts.
also alot of 2t barrels are plated so it might be sweet and needs a hone. if it is plated dont get a rebore cause you need to replate it and this can be expensive.
Sounds like a re-sleeve ,new rings and piston(maybe) . not too much in cost , love 2strokes, but take it as a warning ," DON`T DO IT AGAIN" , ride like the bike is a part of you , if the bike is hurting you are or else you will be shortly , hope it does`nt cost you too much
Ok heres a question............ whats a bike that is 250cc or less with alot of power to spare that i can thrash without having to worry too much about it blowing up 20ks from home?? Oh and be able to buy without burning a bottmless hole in my pocket.............
