    Lowrider idea

    Dunno how practical this will be.

    My rear shocks are damn easy to take off.. just two rings with bolts that go through with the piston/spring in the middle.

    My idea was to have a mock shock made up, but shorter then the originals so that it will sit lower.

    o====o

    Essentially just a rod like I've ASCII drawn above.

    It will make the bike effectively a hard tail, but easy to swop back and forth.

    So anything you can think of that I should consider? I guess the first is that the load on the frame of the bike will increase.

    I havent done it yet. Waiting to hear back if anyone has any ideas about it. Need to reassemble the bike at the moment as I use it for going to work. Need help lifting the frame so I can put the shocks back on.

    Would only use the hard tail lower-ers on rallies and other show-offy times.

    We did that years ago on a quick Bonnie a mate of mine drag raced regularly. He whipped a small amount off his ET by making the rear solid. However unless you have a damn fine seat or a titanium spine I wouldn't suggest you use it for anything but the shortest of trips.

    Probably wanna watch ya rear tyre as you lower the shocks...you could rub the wires on the inside of the guards as well. Just some of the problems i've encountered on some of my MAQGUIVER type activities...stay safe

    I'd only do it for a quick lap around the block - those mounts on the frame are strong but not designed for the hammering resulting from a non-compliant structure like a solid rod. (Unlike a shock where the load is progressive when you hit a bump or pothole)

    Agree major big time with Peasea's comment. Might look nice but expect some pain; it does hurt when riding fast as the roads are not usually up to it and you will feel everything.

    I run my rear tyre on 20psi to get some effect of suspension to counter this, and I ride slower. Having an under-inflated tyre is not the best thing for the tyre either nor is it good for road holding. You will lose a bit of handling as the suspension at the rear helps keep the rear tyre in contact with the road.

    So long as you know what you are getting into go for it and good luck.
