    2002 UK 955i -> NZ

Hi, anyone know if a 2002 UK spec. Speed Triple is legal (or can be made legal) in NZ?
    Any help much appreciated.

Yes,it should be easy to do
Has the bike been modified in anyway??
Make sure you bring information out here proving ownership
Its a matter of going through an inspection,to prove that the bike is up to NZ standards & you prove ownership

Go to www.customs.govt.nz and check out the regulations in regard to personal vehicle importation.

You'll need to prove ownership and then keep it for 2 years once you get here.

You'll need to certify and register the vehicle once it is in the country too, and that process costs about $400 + the cost of a registration plate.

    It isn't a drama, just a process.

If you on sell the bike you will be charged duty and GST, however NZ Customs are pretty flexible so if you want to trade the bike or sell it privately, make sure you ask them if it is OK first.

There is a myth out there that Customs won't know if you sell the bike. It is a myth, and a very nice man in the Customs legal division will contact you if your vehicle's VIN pops up in a change of ownership transaction, and let you know how much you're about to be billed.

The penalties for selling the bike early are laid out in the regs, and for dealers who import privately and then sell immediately the penalties can be quite nasty.

He's obviously scamming. Got an address?

Of course the regs only apply if you follow the correct process.

He's allowed to if he is paying GST.

The process to get vehicles in free is for personal vehicles only. You sign a Memorandum of Undertaking with NZ Customs agreeing not to dispose of the vehicle for 2 years, or you will get pinged the GST (normally no Duty on vehicles unless it's campervans). For this reason, NZC will sometimes want a valuation on the vehicle prior to signing the MOU so they know how much GST would be payable.

A dealer will give you a wholesale value if you ring them and ask them Or you can use the insured value (make sure you insure it for the transport. DO NOT rely on the shipping company's liability insurance as this is very limited in the case of damage or loss. Most of them can offer comprehensive maritime insurance at additional cost.)

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers,
    Mully.

Looking forward to the pics! Love TVRs myself, but that sort of admission can get you into trouble on here.

This is his profile on PistonHeads, we're going out on a photoshoot before I come over, will post some more then, in the meantime, take a look at his pics and vids. They are old and he has since fitted new exhausts and intake stuff + some lovely new black wheels.
