Some moron tried to kill me yesterday. Why?

As I was riding from work yesterday (Ellerslie Panmure Hwy, approx 7pm), some bozo in an old japanese hatchback pulled alongside me (I was in the right lane) and started pushing me towards oncoming traffic. I tried accelerating and decelerating but the bastard kept matching the speed and pushing me into oncoming traffic.
I ended up loosing him by making a right turn onto Ferndale at twice the normal speed without indicating (happy ending), but I think I am gonna need new underwear. And no, I didn't have a chance to see the license plate.
It was dark so I couldn't quite see the face of the driver, but I am positive what s/he did it was not due to lack of experience. The guy (or gal) tried to cause an accident.
Now the $64K question: why would somebody want to do shit like this?

Preparing to enter the turn bay some 500 meters ahead and turn right onto Ferndale.

How do you piss somebody off on a perfectly straight stretch of road?
Unless the guy/gal got pissed off by my very existence.

Some people take offence to bikes, and think it's a game messing with us. I've been moved over on a few times for no apparent reason apart from being able to have more freedom when riding.

Last time for me was the past weekend, I was filtering at no more than 10km/h along a queue of cars on a country road detouring as a result of an accident and indicated to move into the queue due to an oncoming car. There was perhaps 10 metres gap. A bozo in a white Dyna truck deliberately sped up to close the gap and pulled right so my shoulder hit the truck's mirror. I was so tempted to smash his mirror but it looked beefy so I just looked him in the eye, raised my visor, shook my head and pulled away.

Maybe their parents didn't breast feed?

No point getting stirred up over it - you're safe and weren't hurt. The few times I've seen something like this on the roads I always assume they are off their faces on (insert drug of choice here), and get the fuck out of there. Has never happened to me, luckily, but been in the car with someone else driving while they and another driver had a bout of road rage. Both of them were being dickheads.

My theory is, if they are either retarded enough or whacked off their chops enough to try and do that to you on a public road in full view of plenty of witnesses, they are also wired enough to give you a hiding if you stopped them to have it out.

Not worth hanging around to find out what their problem is.

I'll say it and get blown for it but.... You were in Auckland...... The only place in New Zealand where I have had people willing to go under my Truck wheels in their cars rather than leave a gap.

My experience with *555 was that the Police take such things very, very seriously. Although at the time you were preoccupied with staying alive (the best result ), it would have worthwhile making the effort to get the plate number.
