Help - Can I have a lube job please?

Hey who lives near me (St johns, Auckland) and has some chain lube they could spray my chain with, and is awake now (11pm).

I cleaned the bike today, and cleaned the chain spotless, then realized i was fresh out of lube.

Anyhoo, I wanna go into town now to catch some rugby game with some mates, but alas i need lube!

    cheers

Just use a rag soaked in engine oil and wipe it on. Is it an O'ring chain? If not shame on you.

WD40 then, or there must be a servo near you? Maybe you should just stay home or take a taxi......

if you do go the engine oil route then clean the stuff off soon as and get some proper lube, and dont go mad either. its not a good option but as a temporary thing (for one short journey) then it will do......

    or take a taxi.

Don't blaspheme. WD40 is an excellent chain lube. Usable on O-ring chains or normal. Don't buy into that shit about `eating your O-rings', it's bollocks.

Very good lube. The only reason I use Motul chain lube is because WD40 seems to fly off a bit too quickly.

    you just answered my argument!

WD40 does not stay on the chain. a mate used WD40 as a lube and found that his chain was bone dry after 100 ish miles, is that good? erm.......NO

also if it rains the WD40 will wash away.

i didnt know the story about it "eating" chains.

Sounds excessively short to me. In practice I found that even commuting in wet winter it'd keep my chain wet for 500kms at least. Some people prefer that, as with such frequent intervals you don't end up with dirt and shit stuck in your chain.

I know many people who use it on chains exclusively. Certainly a good alternative for this gentleman in this particular situation.

I feel it (WD40) is short term, doesn´t manage a full day on the KLR.

I use 90 weight transmission oil and it is fine, o-ring safe. Perhaps a little oil gets flung but this affects aesthetics not the lube function. Just a light brush with a toothbrush will lube it good.
