Hi a mate and I had one when they were new and Mike Pero (yes the mortgage man) and his brother Ian raced them.
And when they first can out, they were naked and called a Seca.

    • The pace of the ride? Did you feel it was snail's pace or too quick?
    ...and so on.
mmeting place was awesome, lots of room.

the route was about right for me, but i could imagine as i become a better rider it'd become short, perhaps we go a little bit further each week..untill we're doing runs to queenstown...

pace was hard for my wee 150, i sure took a buffeting on it.

oh as for that gravel...when it said 30 i thought it was 30 throught the obviously recently worked on turn...not the straight leaving it, luckily i was still doin 30.

Haha I was having major sight troubles with my tinted visor and contacts I didn't even see the bloody 30km warning sign and I sent my bike sliding sideways for a sec when I first hit the gravel rofl!

Also cheers to the guys that came back for me hahaha... rechecked my tyre this morning and it was completely flat, had a massive leak from the valve. It must have been semi down and I didn't notice it till my tyre cooled down at the wheatsheff and we took off again.

lol, I carry a tyre gauge and pump so probably could have toped the pressure up on the road if I'd known.

I reckon the meeting place was perfect. Maybe a regroup at the edge of town after the last lights in what ever direction we go is called for next time.
The distance was a bit short for me, but then I'm on a 650cc bike and been around a while.
I'd be happy even going to Hanmer or the Leader Valley one night, but that might not work so well for the smaller bikes, after all it is supposed to be a novice and small bike friendly cruise.
Riding in the dark is nothing new to me either, done lots of Christchurch to Queenstown or Haast trips and all the way from Picton to Christchurch a few times in the dark. Just be patient, take it a little easier, don't out ride your light too much, and take more notice of those road work speed restrictions, although I have to admit I got caught by that 30km one this time too. Considered it a timely reminder to wake up and remember to take more notice of what I was doing instead if just chasing the tail light in front, especially since it was dark then.

My understanding is that this is intended to be every Wednesday, meet same place - Burger King carpark, Moorhouse Ave at 6pm. Ride departs 6:30pm. Only thing that might change is the route.

You shouldn't need anyone to txt you that same info every week.

Exactly right Transalper. Same time, same place, every week.

I think you might be onto a winner with the re-grouping idea. We'll stick with the BK carpark for now

just a thought about the meeting point, altho it is central it also means moving thru town at a very busy traffic period, and almost imediately getting split into small groups. Maybe somewhere else might be better?

Yeah, like Halswell Tavern car park. Massive area, and it's right at the edge of town.

Quite a good meeting place, that... only downside being with the meeting time people need to be able to get home from work, get kitted up and get to the meeting place in time for leaving. Having said that we do seem to have a number of members over that side of town already. Thoughts?

I guess if you decide to meet at Halswell and the ride goes north it's still easy to skirt around town from there.
You might just have to make the meeting time 6:30pm (if Halswell), depart 7pm sharpish?
Last time I looked (long time ago) there was a Fish & Chip shop there to get your burgers at if anyone wanted to grab a snack before departure.
In the end I don't really see much of a down side to a Halswell meeting place.

Its just getting a bit too late, especially at this time of the year when its still dark well before 8. Can people not get out to Halswell before 6.30? It's not that far away. I do think that would be a good meeting place though. I'm just a bit worried about pushing the departure time back
