All your braking needs to be done BEFORE the corner. Along with gear selection. You need to be under slight positive throttle as you go around the corner, & then gently roll the throttle on as you hit the apex & can see OUT of the corner to the vanishing point.

You were very simply.. INCREDIBLY LUCKY NOT to have a vehicle coming the other way!!! The outcome, VERY easily could have been VERY different!!!

If ya screw up a corner, ya just gotta COMMITT to it.. LOOK up & look further.. & counter steer harder to get you around the corner.

A few notes I put up from a couple of Roadsafe courses I did..

Wasnt way to hot. Just got hung up on seeing the curve come up so quick and couldnt tear my eyes away from looking straight ahead and ended up going straight ahead.

My problem was not going to fast into the corner, it was the inability to take the corner because I was looking in the wrong direction.

It was and no it wont happen again as I am now more than ever aware of where I need to be looking.

Basically this whole accident has highlighted a lack of practice in a certain area (makes me wonder about other areas aswell) which will be rectified over the next 4 days.

    D stirring up people again

Some of the younger riders here should sit up and take heed of things that D says even if the spelling and the tone seem a bit off now & then. D's intentions are seated in the best manner willing the best result to eventuate.

On the long haul ride D would be the best road captain to have never thinking of himself but considering the whole group over the entire ride to where ever it may be.

time and experience create a powerful knowledge base for events & situations that may take place on the road. it doesn't happen over night and never stops happening but knowledge gained holds you in good steed for new events & circumstances. Something newer & younger riders fail to comprehend sometimes.

Some here should actually listen to their own quotes especially when they're blatantly showing disrespect for things they've supposedly meant to have learnt doing courses on how to be competent & safe riders.

Road craft is something that doesn't come easily but it can be achieved and it's something that never stops growing, some people can grasp it and learn and then there are some riders who think they know the fundamentals but in reality haven't got a clue.

I have done a few of these rides now. At 47 (just!!) i have never had the misfortune to lose a friend through a motorcycle accident but have experinced the trauma of being one of the first on the scene of a fatal car vs truck about 28 years ago. its engraved in my memory right up there with the traumatic birth of my daughter and her life and death struggle for the next 2 years. (shes now a happy and healthy 10yrs old). my opinion is that Dangerous (who i have never met until this year) is only concerned for the welfare of the less experienced amongst us. he doesn't need to hear about another accident where someone he knows however slightly has been hurt (though none was on wednesday night) so he is avoiding these rides to protect himself and fair enough. i had the same thoughts on the way home from Wednesday ride. You just get to an age where you cannot be bothered with this sort of stuff. But i will still continue to attend when work/family life permits because its a good mid week outing and a few weeks ago a learnt something from Dangerous while riding in a slow group with Casualty and Helen OT that has totally changed the way i ride for the better and i need to practise. And please remember that i have owned a bike everyday for the last 31 years.
To anyone that ever told you you’re no good… They’re no better.

History: I have had 35 years riding, started on dirt bikes, then moved to road bike-i have had 80 bikes over the years,a bit of track riding in the early eighties.Loved going out to the drags for a bit of fun.
Now i respect Dangerous and some of the more experienced riders for what they are trying to get across to the other riders regarding safe riding. But this thread is turning into a load of BS and getting boring. So get back on track dealing with the rides. And do your talks at the destination and if you have some advice tell the one who needs it then- before anything bad happens on the ride.Everyone will learn at there own pace so give them time to watch and learn. These rides should be fun for everyone and a learning experience so why is there so much bickering-just get out there and ride safe.
Hope everyone has a great holiday-be careful on the roads. And no drink driving.Cheers.

When are you coming along, Mr. T.W.R? You've still got my wrench too ya bugger!

I went for an interesting ride this morning.... not on my own bike, too!!

    Curious? Here's what I did...

I'm hoping to be practicing for the next 40 years :-)

Just back in from getting some more miles under my belt - thanks to Chromed Knuckles crew. It was a lovely day to be out cruising ~ turned the heads of quite a few kids on the streets with our decorated bikes. Santa on a sleigh will probably never quite do it for them anymore. Santa hats with flashing lights, a red cape blowing in the wind, an long white beard and a tuft of red hanging out under a leather jacket ... looked pretty damned good to me!

After a lovely cruise out to Sumner and over the Port Hills to Wheatshaff, a couple of games of pool, and a bit of a blowout back into the city, tackling idiots in 4WD's along the way - what better way to spend a Saturday morning. We parted company (abruptly) after our last stop at the Clock Tower - sorry guys - I forgot to say goodbye - and thanks! Hope to get out with you all again soon.

Exactly my thoughts mate. I think it's time we left this thread behind us and I'll start a new one for the 08 season. A BS free thread (hopefully).

I'll post up a link on here when I've set it up and we'll be away laughing.

The last thing I want is for someone to have a serious crash and as long as everyone rides responsibly that shouldn't happen. Trouble is, as Deviant said, you can't control someone else. I enjoy these mid week rides and some sure there are plenty others who do too. There's no reason why they should stop. We just need to all take responsiblility for our own riding. This includes me. I've done some stupid things in the past while riding and I've learnt from them. I'll admit I'm pretty inexperienced - just over 2 years riding, but unfortunately I already know what it's like to lose a friend in a bike crash and I've witnessed a couple of pretty serious crashes. Pretty sad really.

Right, lets start from scratch shall we?

D is really good on the longer rides, exactly as GB has said, and maybe is worried we will end up like the northys, all rushing to get somewhere and hurting ourselves or worse in the process. I know you guys are listening, but going back and forth with the bull just gets backs up so lets just start fresh this new year huh?
Accept that D will be a grumpy arse and treat him like ya grandad! And he'll accept that we are all young whippersnappers that need a kick up the ole backside every so often... oh yeah he does the same to me too, bloody arse that he is
really well posted Rashika .. after riding with you guys & knowing both you & Darryl followed me for a bit to check out my riding ability, I know you guys really have the riders best interests at heart.

When ppl are very passionate about a subject sometimes the delivery of that can be mis-interpreted, however there is never any joy when you can say I told you so as that means someone has been badly hurt or worse dead .. & what would be even worse is if someone see something dangerous & decides not to speak up, then a tragedy happens

on ya dangerous, although talking to someone face to face is much easier than the way you type as you can take in body language & there is less room for mis understanding the intent behind the typed word or the intent in the way it was written in the first place

I gotta agree with chancey - D (&R!) are great people, I trust his judgement implicitly and in fact am pissed off I haven't had him follow me for a few km to cast judgement on my riding style and ability. (One day, one day).

He in return has been good enough to trust me with his steed (Guzzi) - even if I was wearing tassles, all without actually watching my riding that much at all.

Anyway, enough from me, don't want to give opportunity to be occused of brown-nosing from me, a merry Xmas to all - even the loser dicks, just fro one day.
