Shake down rides.

After having purchased a s/h sickle what's the longest ride you did to see if the bike was reliable. For the CB550 it was from Bulls up to Cape Rianga via New Plymouth and back via the east cape. The rh shock rod decided it wanted to seperate from the top mount on the AK motorway (not bad after 70,000+ kms I guess). Luckily it locked/jammed in position (I now know what riding a hardtail is like to ride . Sorted it out at a mates father place(he was a carpender and had long clamps to compress the sping for reattachment and locktighting the mounting). Bought a set of Konis eventually. On the way back one of the points rivets decided enough was enough. Sorted that out with some copper wire I had in the tool kit and some super glue from the first gagage I came to south of Cape R. Redid at Rotorua and lasted all the way back home where I replaced both points (which are still fitted btw). Other than those incidents a good trip.

bay of islands to wellington-wellington to bay of islands-bay of islands to wellington. in 2.5 days. I was broken, nothing on the bike did.

All my bikes get a shake down ride of some type.
Usualy down into the Waikato taking in about 4-500kms.

Cool site that.
My own 550 looked much like the third bike on the top row.
I also enjoyed riding my 550 more than the 750,better handling by far and with a drilled disc it even stopped in the rain.
As this site points out the 550 was underated by the riding public but thats the same for a lot of bikes.Take the 400ss for example,ignored in it's day but a cult classic today.
You don't have to do much to turn a 550 into a cafe.,All I did was drag bars,rear sets,single seat,small speedo,Sager four into one,never liked the standard pipes much.

Auckland to Paeroa for battle of the streets, and back on monday morn after owning for 3 weeks

Handed over dosh in Hamilton, jumped on bike and rode home (1,400ks) in 1.5 days.
Lost nothing but the feeling in my backside, arms and thighs.
