Please help.... Opinions on Ducati Super Sports

    Hey all,

I'm new to this site but have been riding for around 6 years, mostly on 250cc machines.

I think it is high time to get something bigger (as I do 90% open road riding - 250cc just don't cut it no longer), does anyone have an opinion on the Ducati 900 SS (mid nineties model) that they would like to share?

    Cheers for any input!

Hey I've had one of these a while back there fairly sweet handlers but the engine is fairly old tech, an is farkin slow. There not really that reliable an not all shops are keen to work on them. But if you like laitn flair you'll probably not care. I would not have one as an every day ride , Ok for weekend missions....................Maybe.

Been riding for to long to call anything slow,to quote a bloke who lives up the road a bit "a sports bike is only as fast as the sport thats riding it" is my only comment on how quick it is,Kms are ok and ive seen many going hard with many more Kms on them.if you have cash you should be able to get it cheaper and if they cant provide proof of servicing then get it checked out before signing anything......the V-twin thing is wonderful but check out other options as well eh as that sort of dosh buys you alot of bikes these days.

Hey there. I have a 02 900 ss. What a bike! For a little bit more dosh you could get the later shape...same motor though, but possibly with fuel injection (depending on how late through that model range) You will love it no matter what!

Ive got a 600 SS. Basically the same bike but with a smaller motor, single front disc and single exhaust.

It is my first bike after a 250 and I think its a good step. The 900 will obviously be faster than mine and mine is about the slowest 600 sports bike you can buy...but mine is still alot of fun. Not the fastest bike but still faster than just about all cars, and its very rare for me to need to wring it right out to go as fast as I want it.

Size and weight wise (mine is 172 dry, 900 will be a couple more) theyre very similar to a Hyosung so it should be a relatively easy step.

Ive only had mine 6 weeks and 1200 ks so I cant comment on reliability (has been fine so far).

I wouldnt worry about people saying theyre slow, itll still be alot faster than what your used to, who cares if its not as quick as a Jap 4 cylinder sportsbike.

Plus its got the ducati noise, nothing else sounds like them (that I know of )

Personally though, I would test ride as many rides as you can before you decide. Remember from a 250 to 900 is a large step in power etc... (even though 6 six years on a 250) and there are many other options. Test ridethem all you may be suprised what you like and dislike, See how comfortable they are on the longer trips and to your riding style, height etc...

If you want some top class info check out the forums at http://www.ducati.ms they'll have all you need to know and more (unfortunately they've been off-line all day today but will hopefully be back up soon)

Nice bikes but if you can, go for the later fuel injected ones.
I have a late 1000SS dual spark and love it.
Have done nothing to it maintenance wise yet, and it does'nt look that much when I will do, and it goes well, loves the twisties and sounds wicked with carbon cans.

Contact Peter at Emoto.co.nz. and try for a later model (post 97) as they are light years ahead of the early bikes. Actually if your near Wellington contact "Crasherfromwayback" on KB as he seems to know a bit about bikes.....

900SS: Generally very hard suspension, plank for a seat but great componentry and a robust, economical motor. An absolute blast to ride but definately full of character, which may or may not be desirable.

Definately ride a number of these to get a good feel forwhat your getting into as they take a bit of adjusting too!

    Enjoy....
