'faster' depends on where it's being used.
top speed? acceleration out of a corner? point to point time? racetrack or road?
I stand by my statement
my KTM 640 Supermoto was much 'faster' than most sport bikes I rode with.

I'd be willing to bet that the people in charge of motorcycle licensing (in any country) are pretty tight with the car manufacturers as well as the oil companies- otherwise this WOULD be happening for cars as well.
Let's review... 16 year old buys R1.. Crashes.. Dies.. 16 year old buys Evo. Crashes, causes pile up, kills himself and other people.
Don't get me wrong, I think comprehensive training and education should be required to get a license, but making it mandatory for bikes based purely on power, and completey ignoring cars altogether is blatant corrupt politics at work...
Make it easy to get motorcycles = less cars = less traffic = less oil = less kickbacks.
the licensing laws based on power are better than based on capacity. for example, you can buy a aprilia rs250, with 73 hp, and ride it legally. not the best option for kids to learn on.
however, a gs500, or something similiar, 400-600cctwin with about 45-50hp is better to learn on than the aprilia, but is illegal to ride.
even the 250cc il4's havent got the best power delivery for a learner. they are also only 45-50hp, but its all at a million revs, and guys thrashing bikes just to keep up. a nice 500cc twin with 50hp, and a torque curve as lat as a pancake, is a better option.
i got a 400cc il4 for my first bike, and wrote in to be allowed to ride it. i didnt use any of the "is too small" arguments against 250's, i merely pointed out that its 53hp(actually 59, but whos going to look) and that the aprilia has 72hp, and nearly twice the power/weight ratio. they were happy with that. i also sent in pictures of it and becasue it wasnt a super faired sports bike, but a naked, they were more happy to let me ride it.
i got my learners, and just wiated till i was on a restricted before getting a bike though.
It's a leap forward from the dated GPX & ZZR. There's another article HERE as well as some better pix:

Thanks Zero Index and Discotex for the advice.
Was never interested in single cylinder. I went with a nice Hornet 250 in the end. 2001, done 5000km. Stoked with my buy. Just waiting on it to be vin'd.

That's awesome to hear... GIJoe1313 has a 250 Hornet and has done millions of km's on it... When you get the bike vinned, give him a PM, as I'm sure he has some helpful advice, he's always keen on a ride, and seems like a nice bloke from the couple times I've been on rides with him![]()

I like the look of the new bike...a nice addition to the ninja family![]()
If this had been out when I got my Hyosung, I defintely would have been looking at it instead.
Of course it might have come down do comfort or price
The Hyosung will still be a contender I reckon for the taller riders. The GT250R is not badly spec'd either with dual front discs, upside down forks etc..and with the 2008 model coming out with fuel injection, and some new colours it'll still attract buyers...as long as the price is competitive.
The motor will be the exact same ZZR model they've always had wont it?
so is it being released in nz?
off to buy a bike today to replace my FXR (temp fix) then saving for my new bike
that kwaka has me interested still
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.
Yes it looks very nice indeed
Once again with late model bikes, I find the photos deceiving. In the flesh it looks like a piece of crap, especially compared to the Hyosung GTR250. It's that ghey.
