    I emailed red baron:
    Fellas,

Aint this a bit much for a 250? a 16 year old bike at that?

I bought (through a dealer too) a mint honda rvf 400 with 30,000k's for 8,300 - and that was overpriced too, and thats an incredibly rare and sought after bike...

Low K's, learner license laws, and a paint job dont add $5,000 onto what a bike is worth...

    Be realistic guys...
and then chatting to mark on msn brought up a few points:

    its 16 years old
    Pete says:
it could have gone round the clock at that age
    Pete says:
and just been reconditioned, and a new paint job
    Pete says:
why on earth would a near new bike have a new paint job? not even a custom one at that?
    Pete says:
(unnamed shop) had a yellow nc30 in there a while back
    Pete says:
it had 64000 on the clock but was mint
    Pete says:
    they wanted 6k for it
    Pete says:
the truth was, it had gone round the clock, and almost again, and the motor was a huge pile of shit that was gna blow

    HAHAHA

I'd be asking why is it so highly priced?

No bike after 16 years would look that good if it was in original condition.

Theres a lot of hidden secrets beneath these fairings!

Anyone asked RB why that is the going price??

I remeber a thread on this bike on KBer a while back. Still overpriced and still sitting on the floor at red baron and I still think they're dreaming at that price.

I know that some of the KB lads work there, but I think that they (RB) need a good kick in the teeth for pricing like that.

AND of course, I blame the government and the stupid learner laws for all of it.

Yep, we've discussed this one before, where I think I made my point of view known. Bottom line for me is, I'll never spend any money there, on anything. I won't support a business that blatantly rips people off.

It sounds like a lot to me but I don't really follow the bike market either. I guess if it's too much it won't get sold and that's the self adjusting factor of a free-market economy. I was looking at bikes a few weeks ago tho and decided I liked the look of the Hornet 250's but most were $5-7k and 15+ years old! If mine was written of I decided that a 2005 Hornet 900 for around the $7k mark was the go, there were two I narrowed it down to and one I was going to get if mine was a write-off, both had low (one 10 thousand and the other 35 thousand K's on them). IMO farking heaps better that a 18 year old 250!! even if it means 6 months or a year on a bitsa GN to get yourself there.

But yeah, seems that the importers of 250's take their time cos they may be able to make the same $$'s on less bikes if demand stays high.
I'm selling my new riding gear!! Only worn a few times get a deal Kiwibikers!!
