Being a devils advocate for just a second, I wonder how many people expressing condolences actually knew the dead guy. It's starting to seem like the grief tourists in the UK. Or am I just a hardened old curmudgeon. Answers on a postcard please.
We indulge in a risky hobby and feel more alive because of it, but some of us will pay the price. It may be better to go doing something you enjoy, than dying full of regrets.

You're a hardened old curmudgeon, but you're right.

I've posted on that point before (people die every day, why spend tears on the ones you've never met...) but everyone keeps posting the "OMG, someone died on a bike" threads, so I just shut up and express the occasional condolence.

I suppose it's just the price one pays for participating in a forum with a friendly, happy, free-love-and-granola ethos. Which is all good.
