Blah KB group rides? Where are they all?

After reading Rashikas thread I had a quick look in the calender....

    sweet flob all.

There used to be heaps of rides going on all over the place...

Its a sunny day.. its the weekend... yet only one ride in auckland?

...I think more people are "flying solo" than they are letting on.

Most people are just orginizing rides with their mates via PM/txt. Me I tend to just go riding by myself. No one to slow me down then.

Well I'm just about to go out on a ride to a cafe - but it's spontaneous so no time to invite anyone!

In case anyone wants to join me, I'm heading to the cafe at Bees Online on SH16 near Helensville (on the main road all out on its own - you can't miss it).

Who knows where I'll head from there...

Lots of people are just organising rides with people they know well and who ride to the same level etc.
It's gone right off the boil after the 2nd Decembers incident last year. Put the wind up a lot of riders and something mst of us will never forget.

Unfortunately it's put paid to a lot of larger rides. ZRXER is jacking a Coro loop up on the 13th? I can't make it as I'm working the morning but one reason there are so few advertised large rides is the testerone levels that kick in with the increased chances of a newbie or less experienced rider going down though it even happens to the best of them.

Limits are pushed a lot more than normal and yep, bins happen quite frequently. I know a long standing member who on his first KiwiBiker ride around the Coro loop with 50 or so bikes, saw five bins on the one day and wondered if he would ever do another Kiwibiker ride.

I can understand why as I've personally witnessed several bad bins and many close calls.

Nothing worse than seeing a fellow rider go down. Even worse when they don't get up

I know everyone says ride your own ride and I say that as well, but the cold hard facts are people push it more than they should on a group ride. This fact is accentuated by the fact that if 40-50 riders are meeting at the Coroglen for lunch than the last one in gets to wait two hours to feed the worms so it turn into a Coro GP. I know my worms bite so hard I have to get in at or near the front or die from hunger.

Personally I don't mind riding hard but have to pull back especially since last years incident. I never feel out of my depth but I know many riders who do and that's when things go horribly wrong.
If the destination is more important than the journey you aint a biker.

Well the Cruiser Group has a ride on most weekends, but we aint into the rip, shit and bluster variety, we just go for a cruise at normal hiway pace which seems to be too slow for many of the sporty bikers..

Well I had a bloody good ride today with a good mate. Prefer private rides with people I can trust.

I took pot luck today and went out with KBers I hadn't met before. Good sensible coro loop with some top blokes. I've been doing private rides lately too though I must admit I do miss the big rides, perhaps a few this summer..?

As beyond said earlier , the big rides seem to have stopped after the 'incident' on the coro loop last year , I like the big rides as well but there seems to be a general apathy towards the rides & turnouts are poor.

You would have been more than welcome on the cruiser ride.
I don't dispute the thought behind your thread though, there were only 5 show up for the cruiser ride & one or two listed for the ride to wellsford. Considering the number of bikes out today the turnout for 'organised' rides is abysmal.
