I live in Petone and can see tracks up on the Wainui Hill and further down, just don't know where I can get onto them.

Does anyone know of any forestry trails in the Hutt or Wainui area? Would be great to find somewhere for little 1-2 hr blats in the evening. The bike is road reg so somewhere that's a short ride away on the tarmac would be ideal
There is an access road a few hundred metres up Haywards Hill (gate access on road leading to the power station). You have to lift your bike over a stile. Only been on the main track but their are several side tracks which vary in difficulty. Had a blast there on one of Corey Sergeants ex-race bikes.

By the way it is $20 to ride on the Watsons property and track. There is a clipboard on their front porch where you write down your name and contact details and clip your money too.

OK thanks. What's the access route? Back in the old days we went up through Karori and Wrights Hill onto that land but do you enter by the wind turbine now?
    Cheers

I went down there for a look last night and there's now a big gate over the trail entrance with a 'No Motor vehicles allowed' sign attached.

I haven't been in for a while, there was (still is?) a rut a couple of feet after the gate that you could sneak up.

It's private land so I don't display my plate and keep it pretty sensible, you might come across the odd service ute, cycle or walker as well as other riders.

I went over to Wainui in the weekend and found an entrance.

At the bottom of Wainui hill turn left at the roundabout
Take the first street on the left
Near the end of the street is a gravel driveway on the left
Near the end of that you can ride around a concrete slab on the right and onto the dirt, from where you can get onto the trails.

I was putting along on the bmw tractor so didn't go in far. There were a few mountain bikers around who I gave way too and they didn't seem to mind me being there.

One of the few places to ride in Wellington won't be there for much longer as it is being developed into housing

I have been riding at Aotea for the last 2 years and although it isnt the greatest, there is a couple of motocross tracks and some hills to play on and it is quite close

It is behind the Aotea College in Porirua, you can see it from the road as you drive past Porirua.

Most people park at the bottom of the area and go in through the gate.
    Cheers

I went to the main road that goes by the turbine but after the parking lot you come to a locked gate. Is there a different route to the farm?

The gate isn't locked. Just lift the chain over post.
