Think this one has more or less already been answered, do you know how to use the search feature in this forum?

Don't know which tanks you are interested in, but my 18.5liter IMS (now holds 20liters after a month or so of use) did not incur any duty, and we got two of them in on one order when we bought them.

Motorcycle parts are free from import duty, however, and this is where it gets interesting.

If the total cost of the item (including shipping) is more than $400 NZ then you have to pay GST (12.5%)

    Thats spot on.

You can always ask the company you are importing the tanks from, to put on the customs docket it's value as $200 or something and ask them to remove any brochures and such that they might have put in the package.

Doesn't work if you have a rather huge container of tanks though. Only good if you have a package with a few things in it, but their "value" is $400 and over.
